LittleMiss Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I was wondering if any of you had some info for me. I am curious about what happens when a father gives up his parental rights. Does this mean he will no longer be the child's legal father or will he just not have the right to make decisions about the child's welfare? Also, if the mother requests that he gives up his rights does he still have to pay child support?
HokeyReligions Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 You would have to check with an attorney, but from what I have seen a parent who gives up all rights to their child no longer has any say in how the child is raised, or any responsibility toward that child such as child support or visitation or any form of custody. There may be many variations depending on what 'rights' a parent gives up.
