VintageWine Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Hello everyone! I have these two friends that I know since high school, one of them though I know since elementary school. However, the one that I knew since elementary school, we don't know each other like that. Anyways, these two friends, we go to the same college, they consider me their best friend, however, I don't feel the same way about them... :x I have close friends that live out of state, we are there for each other, we talk about anything which is anything. However, with the friends that I have here....I just can't do that with them, it's not that I don't trust them just certain things I just can't talk to them about. I appreciate them as friends, grateful for them and all...I just...I just don't consider them best friends and I don't know if that's wrong of me to not consider them best friends. I mean, I like how they consider me their best friend in a way it shows that I'm treating them right, which I always try to do with people in general...I just don't consider them my best friend. They say how we are best friends and such while I just see them as a friend No, they aren't mean, nor annoying nor bad people...I just feel bad that I don't consider them best friends and wondering if this makes me ungrateful...anyone ever dealt with this when someone considered you as a close friend or best friend, and you didn't feel the same about them? 1
basil67 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Ungrateful would be not appreciating their friendship and kindness. But it sounds to me like you very much appreciate them - you just don't feel the same depth of friendship as they feel for you. And there's nothing wrong with this - feelings can't be forced. Continue as you are.

You'll have a person and you're their best friend, but you're more attached to someone else. You are still their friend and they needn't ever know where they are on your totem pole! 1
Wewon Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 No, you are not being ungrateful simply because you don't consider them best friends. So long as you are not exploiting this imbalance or deliberately manipulating them you are in the good. 1
