OldRover Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Why do we see more men that are unshaven? I mean just no shave in a few days, not a beard, just sloppy and poor grooming. In advertisements, on TV, and the general public. Is that the new trend? Looks sloppy and unattractive. 2
Grewd Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 New trend? Nope. It's probably men who doesn't care about trends. I don't want to bother shaving every single day just to please other people, I'd prefer superficial people to avoid me and if not shaving achieves that then I'm not against it.
jen1447 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 You mean stubble guys? That's been around for at least a decade. It's a misnomer that it's just lazy btw. My BF has regular stubble and he has to maintain it pretty carefully to keep the right look - not too long, no neckbeard beginnings or cheek encroachment, etc. It's honestly probably more work than just shaving it would be. 2

If it's required for work that's one thing, but why the hell would I want to shave my face every single day?
Author OldRover Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 Exactly. If it's required for work that's one thing, but why the hell would I want to shave my face every single day? Geeze, takes about 3 minutes... but one day really doesn't hurt, unless you have a really dark beard. Believe it or not, I shower everyday, too. I just choose to look and feel clean. Very small effort for a guy. (and, I don't hire people that don't shave, either). 1
carhill Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I haven't noticed them being more common. Myself, yep, unshaven right now, I don't shave unless I'm heading into town. No sense in it since I'm quite comfortable with a beard and it cuts down on power and water usage if unnecessary. I was socialized by a guy who religiously shaved every morning before putting on his dark suit and heading to work. Heh, my life is about as far away from that as possible.
brothers343 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 The only time I didn't shave was when i went overseas on deployment. Now that I'm back to the world I need to be smooth and clean. And I love it!! 1
loveweary11 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Been shaving only once or twice a week for a decade. Every girl that's ever commented on the topic prefers it to clean shaven daily. Wanted to grow one of those Redfisher-esque beards, but the salt n pepper look would only make me look older and from what I recall, I don't enjoy the smell of a beard or how it gets food in it. As a much younger guy I had a full Jesus beard and goatee. Both were kind of annoying.

If hair is so dirty then shave your head and eyebrows.
jay1983 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Don't hate on other people just cause it doesn't look right on you.

Robert Z Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Shave every day and you'll always look keen The stubble look first took off with Don Johnson, on Miami Vice, in the 1980s. I don't think the look has ever completely gone out since.
dreamingoftigers Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 IDK Husband isnt shaving right now, letting it grow out to see what it looks like. It makes him look rugged but about five years older. Big blonde thicket that it is. He's the kind of guy that needs to shave everyday to look remotely close to clean-shaven. I've never seen anything quite like it. The guys in my church group do "Movember" and some don't have much going on for at least a week or so. By Day 2 or 3 my H is in full bloom LOL. I am surprised by how many guys grow in "patches." In another few weeks my H will be a stand in for ZZ Top! I don't mind it in general. But he went down on me the other day and every time I'd get close it felt like rubbing up against burlap. Still worked out though. Meh.
thefooloftheyear Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 It used to be a sign of ruggedness, the skinny jean, hipster wanabes ruined it.... Clean and mean....for 2016.... TFY 3
NGC1300 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I like how OP equivocated stubble with not bathing. 1
Emilia Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I do like a nice, well trimmed beard or clean shaven. Wouldn't care about stubble except it can grate on the skin, literally. Beards are the highest maintenance, I understand, if you care about how trimmed they are. They can be very flattering and soft but when they just grow out unkempt they have an aging effect.
Author OldRover Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 I like how OP equivocated stubble with not bathing. I didn't. I just said I like a clean shave... which doesn't mean that unshaven doesn't bathe. But, if one bathes, shaving takes minimal time... just "dirt" simple to do both at the same time. So, not shaving because it's too time consuming or hard is really a poor excuse. Now, if one wants to look unshaven, that's up to them. I don't care for it, and most in my crowd don't either. Just an opinion and observation. But, seems like some just want to try a change, growing a beard use to be it, but lately just not shaving has been it. Looks sloppy.
Michelle ma Belle Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I don't know if it's a trend or not and don't care because I've always been a woman who loved men with facial hair. I couldn't be happier it's "popular" - more eye candy for me I guess Having said that, I'm not particularly attracted to uber metrosexuals who spend all day primping themselves be it going hairless or overly coiffing what hair they do have but there is also a time and place to look disheveled. I prefer the middle ground. 1
xxoo Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Mmmm....I love big, thick, long ones. Beards. I'm talking about beards. 3
StandingO Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 If you have a fast regroth the I can see why one would Skip it here and there and mix up the day to day look. As for myself don't have strong facial hair growth. It would be a tad patchy if I tried to grow a beard (never had). Shaving is quick and no big deal. Sometimes got to remember to slow down and keep those side burns even lol
GravityMan Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Very few men can pull off the stubble look, IMO. The vast majority of men are better off either clean-shaven or with a well-trimmed beard. Also, stubble can be scratchy and uncomfortable for a woman's sensitive skin during kissing and cuddling. The stubble look has been around for many years, but at the same time I think it is becoming more common, especially among men under 35 or so. I suspect the increased popularity of stubble coincides with the progressive movement, as well as the growing trend towards business-casual, semi-casual and casual wear in professional environments.
jen1447 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Also, stubble can be scratchy and uncomfortable for a woman's sensitive skin during kissing and cuddling. Tip for guys - actual stubble's not really irritating unless you're a particularly steel wool beard type guy. What gets moreso irritating is when it goes from stubble to scraggle. Then those little hairs have enough bite to jab you at random and kinda team up to make it unpleasant overall.
lino Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Other than the hipster beard craze, I've not noticed any facial hair fads here.
Cablebandit Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 My wife likes the LOOK of me with a trimmed 3 day stubble but not the feel for kissing/sex. It does seem to be a trend with the 30 and under crowd here in the Southern USA

I'll go with beard and if it offends anyone ... then '******** you'. 1
