2much4 Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 On these boards I've come across stuff like "I've had 8 relationships, 5 of which were serious" a lot. I don't really understand statements like that as for me I'm either in a relationship (which by definition is serious) or I refer to them as a male friend, friend with benefit or fling...but never call them boyfriend. It also usually fizzles out after 1-4 months. For me being "serious" is being (mutually) in love, committed, spending a lot of time together, introducing the family... it doesn't really matter if I want to marry them though since marriage is off the table for me till I finish my doctor's degree, which might take a few more years. I've never considered marrying one of my boyfriends even though I was very much in love with them. A lot of people seem to consider "serious" as wanting to marry the person though. What would you define as being a "serious" relationship? Do some people refer to casual arrangements as a "not so serious relationship" or even call them their SO? How is a "not very serious relationship" any different from a fling or f- buddy? (TBH I really don't see the difference)
