How to approach a crush?

I am unsure if he has a gf. He never seems to bring a gf up in conversations.

 

We went to middle school together so I have known him for a while.

 

I was making small talk one time saying my brother moved to the city so he could meet single people. The guy was like I understand the feeling. He's kind of looked at me when we run into each other. I am unsure what to take that as.

 

How to approach him if he's single or not so I can move on or potentially ask him out.

Step 1: Walk up to him

Step 2: Ask him out e.g. "Hey I think you're pretty cute and I was wondering If I could get your number?"

 

Unsure if he has a girlfriend? If he says he is already seeing someone then there is your answer.

You already know this guy and talk to him. If you're afraid to flat out ask him out, then I suggest you ask him to hang out.

 

"Hey, XYZ is playing at this bar Saturday. Want to go?" If he says yes, then make your move when you're hanging out. If he mentions girlfriend or has other plans, take it as no interest.

Thank you guys so much. I'm trying to make healthier and wiser dating choices in 2016 after not dating at all in 2015 . Trying to protect my heart as well, but be more out there with dating if that makes sense. Also, trying to not waste time more than I have to then to only find out if they are dating someone or not.
