This isn't a "Tell me I'm pretty!" post. I'm mostly just curious.

I am the prototypical ginger. Bright orange hair, pasty white skin, blue eyes, etc. I know guys are often attracted to ginger girls and I've never met a man who would say "Red head women are unattractive in general". In fact, some find it especially attractive. But it seems to me ginger men are targeted with more negative stereotypes and more "10 reasons why gingers SCIENTIFICALLY less attractive".

I've made my peace with how I look and I use my uniqueness to my advantage, but I'm just wondering if there are any women who find gingers attractive? Conversely, are there any women who would not date a guy with red hair?

I think there's a difference between red hair and ginger hair. A lot of women (and guys too) dye their hair red, or are naturally red haired but without a lot of freckles, and without being what would be described as "ginger". To me red hair ranges anything from strawberry blonde to a chestnut kind of colour. Ginger to me means bright orange with freckles.

There is one redhead I volunteer with. He is super attractive! However, he is like 4 years younger than me. I'd feel like a cradle robber to him. I don't event know if he is past 21.

Well I knew a few ginger lads back at school and the insults were always about the same thing.. "Ginger pubes".

Total pro-ginger here.

That used to embarrass me to know end in middle school. Worst of all my crush asked me in front of all her friends. As I've developed my thick skin and sense of humor, I usually respond with a witty comeback or a shrug.

A good friend of mine from age six or seven into high school was a natural redhead (with freckles on his face and body) and he was, once puberty hit, very popular with the young ladies. He got into music and did some DJ'ing at local stations later in life. I used to hear him on the radio and see him at gigs in my 20's. That part of his life wasn't a problem, though the radio and music businesses created a few of their own, if you know what I mean.

In my neck of the woods redheaded guys are very rare. Can't recall the last time I saw one. Rare can be attractive. It depends on the audience. Of course I grew up with a young Ron Howard on the tube as a kid.

I think the general stereotype of redheaded guys is that they're the nerdy. shy, quiet type. So I suppose it depends on the personality that goes with the look, because a lot of women do seem to find redheads aesthetically appealing.

Just goes to show how silly some societies/cultures are...

I didn't think "anything" of "gingers" (didn't even know the word "ginger" was used to describe people with certain color skin, hair, etc) until I saw a South Park show a few years ago where they made a big stink over it.

People need to find something better to do with themselves instead of find ways to harass and ridicule others.

But I guess in the schools, kids are less forgiving of someone that doesn't pass for "mainstream" (i.e. an overweight kid, an certain kid in a school with predominantly other race/culture/etc than him/her)

Yes, that's where I first learned about what 'sunscreen' was, back in the 60's. He cooked unless covered with that or clothes, especially where we lived, since it was routinely 100-110 during the summer. Sun all day, every day :D I tended to burn too so it helped me as well. Heh, made me think I still have some old cassette tapes of the reel-to-reel 'radio shows' he and I would do back when we were kids. Great memories. Hah, his parents had the only pool on the block too.... wanna be popular with the girls? The pool worked and, whoa, the swimsuits. :D

That South Park episode fueled a lot of the teasing and bullying that I got in my grade school days. I was lucky because I was at least funny enough to be acquaintances with the popular kids. I remember one awkward kid was bullied bad enough that he had to leave school. I've also seen on the news that some kids around the country were hospitalized on "Kick a Ginger Day." I've been lucky enough to grow a thick skin when others couldn't, but even I still have insecurities about it, especially when it comes to dating. 12-14 year olds can be so cruel!

Although I've never dated a "ginger" myself (I've only met a few), I have plenty of friends who actually consider the red hair and freckles to be their ideal when it comes to guys! ;)

From what I've noticed, it seems guys are the ones who think red hair is a negative trait (when it comes to themselves or other guys). Many women like red headed men. My coworker wants WWE's Sheamus.

They're hot. Red head or ginger.

I dunno wtf is England's problem, then again they're nasty in general. (Kids in school). I'm only isolating England from horrific YouTube videos I've watched.

I'm starting to think this might be the case. Even now that people don't make fun of me for having red hair that often, my friends still find ways to put me down for it. I guess it's probably mostly in my head.

I can't say I find gingers attractive just because they're gingers, but if they're attractive, they're attractive, regardless of hair color/eye color/etc.

I'm currently involved with a ginger though.

I'm an old fart, so it won't do you any good, but for what it's worth, I never discriminated against red hair. That said, you can be who you want to be. It is true you might just change your life dramatically by going brunette or whatever color your good hairdresser thinks goes with your skin tone best. It's your life. Women do it ALL the time. A lot of men do too. Experiment if you want.

Yes, this. I currently have a crush on a guy at work who is a ginger.

I'm a ginger and growing up on the beaches of San Diego was HELL for me... Still kinda is which is why I tend to vacation in places like Scotland or Hungary (in the winter).

I'm going on a family cruise to the Caribbean in three weeks and I'm really not looking forward to it...
