Attracted to the same type?

My ex-boyfriend and I broke up because he cheated on me with some fat cow from North Dakota. He was very deceitful and said "I love you" everyday up until the point when he dumped me....so I was quite shocked. This was about six weeks ago.

I've tried to get back into the dating scene, but I find that the only men I'm attracted to are guys that look similar to him. I wonder if I'm doomed. Before him, I didn't think that I had a type, except that I liked tall men who had a bit of gray in their hair. But it's weird, because I'm finding that I'm not attracted to men who don't have blue eyes and aren't extremely intelligent....all the things that he was (well, except for the fact that he traded in a Cadillac for beat up Chevy).

Does this happen to other people, or is it just me?

You're not doomed, just facing a temporary setback, sweetie.

All of us have a type. And previous experience shapes that type. Take my case - all the Juliet's have a lot in common. This is especially in terms of character, but many of them have a similar look too.

However, in your case it sounds like you're not over him yet. I had the same thing for a couple of months - eye colour suddenly and mysteriously added to my list. How random is that? I knew I was making progress the day I realised eye colour was no longer an issue.

It's not so much the physical characteristics you need to concern yourself with. As RR said, we all have things we find physically appealing.

I'd be more cautious about similarities in their characters/personalities. Particularly those negative traits you found not-so-appealing about your former mate. Those are the red flags you need to be vigilant about so you don't accidentally fall back into old relationship patterns.
