Hi everyone,

I have been dealing with some stuff with my so called best friend.

There is a guy that I have dated in the past. I liked him but it was not anything serious, we just had sex sometimes and that was it.

My best friend knew about him and we talked a lot about him.

Now a year after the last time I saw him, my best friend randomly started following him on Instagram and liked his pictures (she doesn't know him at all). He sent her a message (something like do I know you?) and she replied and they were sending messages back and forth. She initially said to me: I would never do anything with him, your guys are off limits for me.

The next day she asked: Would you mind if I would meet up with him?

I said that I did mind and I was kind of mad because I felt like it was a shady thing to do, since she doesnt even know the guy.

She said she would cancel him and she said sorry, but I still was mad at her.

Am I overreacting? This thing happened two months ago and I haven't talked to her ever since.

Moreover, my dad passed away three months ago, he had a heart attack. Now she hasn't been there for me at all, she barely even asked how I was doing and she didnt even take the effort to come and visit me.

What do you guys think? Is she being a bad friend or am I overreacting?

Thanks

You're not overreacting. I'm glad you were direct with her. She didn't know the guy, had no reason to make contact, and yes, she did have ulterior motives all along. Now, some will say "but you don't really want him and it's over, etc.," but why it's wrong to do this to a friend is because this:

Now, she will sneak around behind your back and do it and it will cause an awkward situation because she'll be telling him, "But you can't tell her because I guess she's still jealous" and try to make you look like an idiot. And then he will either be flattered or he will be mad you're interfering in his love life. So that's why you don't sneak around and poach either lovers or friends off someone who considers you a loyal friend and who has confided in you. It's bad form. It creates chaos. Don't ever confide in her again or let her meet your friends and ban her from your social media. Poachers are nothing but parasites.

Not a good friend (her)

Keep going on without her, it's her loss.
