I went out last night and my friend who has been married for 2 years told me he liked me 4 years ago when we started working together. He said he never told me at the time as he had just started dating his wife and was worried he would scare me by telling me. I don't know what he had to gain from telling me he liked me and said he still thinks I'm nice etc.

He's looking for an adventure.

Tell him how inappropriate it is of him to tell you this while he is married and you don't want to hear anything of that nature again.

He's grooming you for the possibility of cheating.

It could be for many reasons:

1. He is going through a crisis in his marriage, or maybe the marriage is boring him and he regrets not having made a move when he could and he regrets not being with you.

2. He wants an ego boost, he wanted to hear from you "Oh I have always been attracted to you too"

3. He is trying to cheat on his wife with you.

Either way, it is very, VERY inconsiderate of him to say such a thing. He is either a player or a desperate man. Stay away from him.

I think it's mostly about the ego boost with him. You have no idea if the man really wants to cheat on his wife or if they are happy at this moment, but he's saying it to plant a seed of hope in you, hope you like him, and then should he want to reject you later on he'll feel good about it. Just be stonefaced and unreadable with him so he won't pursue it.

He's an immature jerk. He's looking for easy sex now. Beware.

My instinct feels that the most likely scenario is that this is a guy who (would love it if somebody else stepped-in and drew him away from the boredom that is his present relationship).

He is perhaps not compleeeeeetely satisfied/content there at home, but isn't strong enough to demand/make changes, or take the bold steps which would be ending that relationship.

Soooooooooooooo, and perhaps subconsciously, he is jonesing for a way to inspire his partner to end the relationship FOR him.
