BigB Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 My Mom drives me nuts sometimes. She knows that Friday-Sunday I work, and that I work nights, so, for 3 days I pretty much just work and sleep, that's all. I spend time with her almost every Thursday, and usually on Mondays as well. Yet, every Saturday or Sunday, I get the "I haven't heard from you in a few days, are you ok?" phone call. *sigh* I'm freakin' 26, I'll be ok for 2 days! meh, just venting...

I love her to death but she's got a really strong personality and ... she acts on it, LOL. Back home, I lived 400 kms away from her and still felt like I had no air to breathe. We talk every 3 or four days. Sometimes we talk more often, other times it may take weeks... She's alright. Curly P.S. I remember once, she used to call me every freakin' day, she was driving me maaaad! I guess it's because she was really missing me. We don't see eachother too often.
Syncerity Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 yea my mom cant go a day without talkin to me...i went away for the summer to visit my pops and she called me twice a day...shes getting better nowadays, back when i was smaller and would have sleepovers at friends, i think i talked on the phone with her more than i was playing with my friends ...she says the house just aint the same with my messy noisy self...awww u gotta love parents...ill admit if she didnt call me all the time when i am away i would call her, i b missin my mommys loud mouth and shes hillarious..gotta love parents

I'm only an hour away, but still we only talk at least once a week or more depending on how busy things are. My sisters live alot farther away, and one of them calls every couple of weeks or more. The other one calls maybe once a month. I call my mom to find out what's going on with my sisters. I haven't talked to my youngest sister since Xmas, and the older sister only once.
Merin Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I talk to my Parents every day and yes if I don't call them they for real call me and wonder WTF is wrong with me! I don't mind at all... They are awesome people, so yeah.. I'm all good with it

Treasa Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 You know, anyone who complains about it probably doesn't have kids. You love your kids more than anything, and as a parent you probably tend to worry. I love talking to my mom, so she can call me as much as she wants.
blind_otter Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I talk to my Mom every day. I see the padres at least 2-3 times a week. I love them . Sometimes my Mom does this weird thing where she calls me and is like "Oh, I was worried about you." Except I only have a land line. And I'm sitting at home watching PBS. Yeeaaaah, Mom. Also once she found an almost full bottle of whiskey in my house and poured it down the drain. I was pissed at the time, but now I'm glad she did it because I was starting to have a drinky-poo problem.

When I'm out of town I find myself checking in every day or two- mainly though because I like filling them in on what I'm doing! So, no hard feelings here. My fiance used to hear every day from his mom, but she's a little more lax now. Kids get busy too!
circusfood Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 My mom can be like that, she doesn't get so much worried, she gets more irritated that her son won't call her every few days. She lives 2000 miles away, and I call her once a week and I email her. But My Dad is worse. He calls Everyday, emails everyday, wants to see me every weekend. I'm in my mid 20's, i'm not a kid anymore, but he worries like crazy. He has a hard time seeing me and my older sister who is 30, as Grown-Up's. He still treats us like kids. He's in denial or something, doesn't want us to grow up

Every single holiday get's cancelled 2 weeks before because my siblings and I are terrible rotten kids I'm the baby at 30. lol My mom's crazy, my dad's a worry wart, but I know they got my back when I'm in trouble.

I think most parents want to keep in touch because they care and they love their kids, not because they are trying to be nosey or controlling. Does your mom live alone? If so, maybe keeping in touch with you helps her to not be so lonely as well. Keep in mind that there is a young woman missing who went on vacation in Aruba. Things happen. Good parents worry. (Yes, sometimes it's needless.) You said that you work nights, so I would think that only adds to her concerns. Too much happens to innocent people at night. Smile at the fact that you and she get along and that you love each other. Some folks out there aren't that lucky.
TUDOR Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Right there with you BigB. I am 29 and still get harassed by my mother to call at least every couple of days. If I don't I get the guilt trip. To top it off I only live about 15 minutes from my parents so if I don't see them at least once a week it gets worse! But I try to take advantage of it and get a free good home cooked meal when I can because my wife cooks as good as my 6 year old niece!

I'm over there for the food about 3 times a week. I guess it could be that I work nights, and my job is rather dangerous.. not nearly as dangerous as my dad's though. I guess because me and my dad both work all weekend she worries. She has told me that she panics whenever the phone rings at night because she thinks something has happened. I keep telling her that if something happens the cops will come to door, not tell her over the phone. But that probably doesn't help...
ziggue Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 My mum and dad ring up at least once or twice a week. I moved out of home 6 months ago. Only 20 minutes away. Guess they ring when they just miss me and want to catch up.
trapped stranger Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I'm glad that you can have an understanding conversation with your parents. I wish that were the case for me; I cant talk to my mom. She thinks that if I do one thing wrong then I am a bad person for it. But my younger brother was put in a detention center for an awful reason that I shouldnt mention but he is still the perfect child. It just seems to me like my mother wants me out of her life; but the bad part is when I tried to leave she tripped **** and I was grounded from the man I am engaged to, the phone, internet, I'm not even allowed to come out of my room unless it is absolutley necessary. I was almost 18 when it happened and she was still acting like I was her little 8 year old daughter agian. I really need help before I go crazy.
