He texts me first but takes hours to reply. Is he playing games?

I've been going out with this (23 yo) guy for about 2.5 months. He's really nice and we get along great in person. We've been on about 10 dates so far. He's been taking things pretty slow with me and hasn't rushed for sex yet. In between our dates, he texts me maybe a couple of times a week, mostly to make plan for our next date. I've initiated convo with him too but usually it doesn't go very far because he doesn't make much effort to keep it going. Lately, I've noticed that every time he initiates a convo with me and asks me a question, I'd reply right away and ask him a question, he wouldn't reply back for several hours later. Why would he bother asking me if he doesn't care what I have to say? It's so weird. Is that typical guy behavior when they're playing game or are some of them just really bad at texting?

I'm almost literally twice his age, so take that into account.

I do the same thing. I don't do it to play games, I just may sit my phone in the charger and check it periodically. That means that I may not see a text for a couple of hours.

Instead of assuming things one way or another maybe you should ask him about his phone habits.

Also, why don't you just call if you want an on-going conversation? I always wonder why so many students walk around campus buried in their phones literally typing their conversations out instead of just calling and getting it done in a matter of minutes.

If he's a boring guy with no life and nothing to do, than yes he may be intentionally delaying his responses to make himself seem busy.

If that is not the case, than his texting style simply just doesn't match yours.

frequency of reply says little of his attitude. You better judge according to other attributes - how do you feel around him?

Also, as other said - when I a, busy, it takes me hours to reply, maybe even a day or two. It's not manipulative, probably.

In today's generation, nobody is too busy to reply to a text two days later.

He goes slow, takes forever to text, hasn't push for sex, only contacts you just to set up dates = possibility he has a GF or is married.

You need to speak up and assert yourself if this is something that bothers you. Next time you guys are out together just casually bring it up or bring it up when the opportunity presents itself and say "if you send me a text this week and I answer and then it takes you 6 hours to reply to that then just wait until you're free to actually send me a text. That's just a huge pet peeve of mine. So while I'm not asking you to devote large periods of time to texting me, I just expect the same courtesy of timeliness to be given to me that I give to you.. Fair?"

He probably texts you when the phone is in his hands then he puts the phone down instead of being glued to it. Nothing more. No game playing.

If you are unhappy about the pace of the communications you can mention it to him but don't attack him. This is certainly not an unpardonable sin.
