T-16bullseyeWompRat Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Supply and demand folks. Let's discuss this. I work in the wireless industry for a major service provider. I have people come in every day complaining about the price of their cell phone bills. These same exact people are in an absolute anxiety attack when their phone is broken or not working right (99.9% user error or at fault for damage) and claim "I can't be without a phone! My life is in this phone! My job blah blah blah! My kids blah blah blah!" ... Or this one... "Do you know how much money I've lost today cause this crap phone won't work?!?" I've heard this countless times. Yet the thought of a backup phone never crossed numbnutts mind so he doesn't ever lose money due to a phone issue. His/her own stupid fault! I've heard every sob story about why people feel they NEED their phone 24/7. Yet they complain about price, ha! We have you by the balls already! Just be thankful there is competition, otherwise you would really be in trouble! Wtf is with people and their damn phones anyway? It's job security for me, so whatever. I guess I just don't get it. Can someone explain this to me other then fear sells? Cause that's the only thing I can think is causing this. Fear of being kept out of the loop maybe? Fear of not being reachable 24/7 as if anyone is that important. Fear that something bad will happen to someone if you don't have your phone? These are the same parents that grew up without cell phones btw. The same parents that when they were kids were told to "go outside and play, stop being cooped up in the house all day. Don't come back till dark/dinner." These are the same people putting GPS tracking watches on their kids and giving 7 yr old iphones for Christmas so they can always be in touch. So when did the the mentality flip? How did these people start letting fear run their lives? Whatever... All im saying is there is no room to complain about price. We know how much it means to you. We had a training once about data products and a side note of the training was telling us people pay their cellphone bill above other even more important ones. In fact it was second to mortgage in terms of percentages of bills paid monthly by households. SECOND! Now I've looked and couldn't find any study on this myself, so take that with a grain of salt for sure. It was interesting that this was brought up in our training though. Anyway, just saying its pretty dumb to state you can't live without something, and at the same time be outraged that the price is too high! You want your bill to go down? Learn to live without it! And for the record, if your phone is a POS, take it up with apple/Samsung/htc/Motorola/LG because how is your signal? Good? OK, cause that other crap isn't our issue. Oh your screen is broken? You don't like the camera on your phone? Icloud didn't restore your photos? Having an issue with your Facebook? Can't log into your email because you don't know wtf your password is? Software updates pushed out by the phone manufacturer's ruined your battery life? I'm truly sorry, but that is just not our effing problem and we have zero control over it. Again, how is your signal strength and service? Good? OK so wtf do you want from me then? Please don't confuse this as I don't want to help. I help people who ask for help because they need it. I have no problem showing someone how to use their phone properly and how to get the most out of their devices easily. That is part of the service I provide. But to blame your issues on the service provider if service isn't the issue is freaking stupid! Ohh if I could only speak the truth to some customers. Wouldn't be very customer servicy of me tho and would most certainly hurt my job security haha! /my rant Do you have a rant of your own about your job or my rant in particular? Do join in on the fun! It was therapeutic typing all that out! Haha
