Why does everyone think gamer/nerdy girls are better than "typical" girls?

I've noticed that the internet always portrays the nerdy, gaming, anime watching girls as making better girlfriends than an typical girl. By typical I mean girls who are more girly, into going to parties, drinking, gossiping with friends and into really basic stuff like celebrities and Pretty Little Liars.

I hope you know what I mean and that I'm not trying to generalize.

Why do most people assume that the typical girl or "basic bixch" will automatically be inferior to girls who are into video games and "alternative stuff when it comes to dating? Why are these "alternative" girls seen as the perfect girls and the "typical" girls seen as people who will be fake and untrustworthy? Is it because they wear more makeup? Have more of a social life and more opportunities to cheat? I don't understand.

The internet is populated by a lot of guys who like anime and video games. Of course you will be hearing that they want a girl who likes those things too.

On the other hand I don't think any guy really considers it a positive thing for a girl to have celebrities, gossip and drinking as their main past times.

I don't really desire either of those types. I'm more into the nurturing, cooking, supportive, backrub type.

Where are you getting all of this from?

I don't know anyone who thinks that & I can't point to a single media / entertainment venue which promotes this viewpoint. It seems to be your perspective.

That said, in an age before video games, media always favored the quiet girl next door over the popular glam-a-zon. The feel good message was kindness, patience, being nice & virtuous were more desirable qualities then being popular, shallow or pretty but empty. Entertainment mediums tend to favor the underdog because those types of stories are more dramatic & thus make better entertainment.

One of the appeals is the contrast of a "nerdy" girl who is actually really attractive. It's joined by a fun, accepting personality that won't judge the "nerdy" gamer guy. Then, it's also a justification for the gamer guys that if there are hot gamer girls, then it means the guys can be cool and attractive too.

I don't know if it is as wide spread as implied by the OP, but this makes sense.

I think that a girl that enjoys and/or appreciates your interest is more likely to be supportive of them rather than feel the need to destroy them in the name of "maturity" or growing up.

OP. You are listing two stereotypes: nerdy anime girl & celebrity-following mainstream fashion girls. These two assumptions exist for a reason, and probably apply to some, BUT they're a minuscule selection in the range of choices!

The two stereotypes that would typically date those two are the gamer guy & football guy. But once again that's only 0.00001% of the real population, and an ASSUMPTION! Marketing & Hollywood movies created this.

It has to do with common interests. I love playing & watching sports. If my girlfriend has the same interests, that would be amazing. It's really that simple.

Because if I want to play video games for 10 hours on my day off, I know a nerdy girl is less likely to hassle me :p.

In all truthfulness, the 'perfect gamer girl' is a unicorn. It doesn't exist. It's something girls put on profiles to seem less needy and more supportive. And girls that do use that as their main selling point and mean it...usually look like they sit on a couch all day, just like guys do that claim that as their main hobby.

I think you are letting TV and other forms of media overly influence your worldview of women, OP.

Go outside more to various places and interact with more people in the flesh.

You know why I like dorky/nerdy girls? They're passionate about their hobbies. Doesn't always have to be videogames. It can be books, or movies, or art, etc. It's that mix of explosive passion about something in someone typically reserved. The contrast is alluring.

I'll also add that nerdy, socially awkward guys and girls probably understand each other better.

Firstly I definitely wouldn't say that that's true of all, or even most, guys. But it might seem that way in certain parts of the internet because lots of the type of guy that are into that type of girl hang out in that part of the internet.

The logic behind liking the nerdy/alternative/gamer girl though is that they seem like they have more in common with the guy and will want to do the same things the guy wants to do. Like say the guy is super into gaming, they're obviously happier when the girl wants to game with them than if she lectures him for it and only wants to go out to fancy dinners. It's nice to have common interests and lifestyles is what it comes down to.

Who would be into that?

I'd want any alternative!

That's hardly the typical girl, though. I hope.

I'm not much of a gamer. I dabble, which isn't enough for games these days. I'm a bit geeky though. I don't think we are by any means put on a pedestal.

In my opinion:

Socially awkward women, which consists of a large part of 'geeks',

Are often not a social butterfly, in which it's far easier to meet.

In modern dating, there's a lot of competition, and it's so easy to 'next',

Simply fire up an app, find someone else, and send off a little text.

The aforementioned women, however, stereotypically won't find as many new men to meet,

For their social life is lacking in comparison to a social butterfly, they just can't compete,

This in turn translates to security for awkward men, who have a hard enough time in the field,

When trying to win a girlfriend, and showing them their new characters sword that he yields.

Because the drinking partying gossiping girl tends to be terrible girlfriend materiel. Drinking and partying leads to bad decisions, including cheating and a lack of loyalty. I speak from experience and every guy I know can vouch for avoiding them.

We also don't want to date a girl that goes around telling all of her friends every single detail about our relationship and you know that she will be spilling all the details.

Because being a nerd is now "cool".

Most self-proclaimed nerd girls are full of sh*t and just pretending to be what they think is hot.

I'll have everyone know, I wore; chucks, raybans, used hot sauce, listened to vinyl, grew my beard, and enjoyed flannel back before it was cool.

So there.
