Has a 'talk' ever worked out?

Long story short; a girl who ages ago 'lets just be friend'd me started throwing herself at me after road trips together and hanging with our circle of friends. Even her friends were confused because they knew of this but then seeing how much she was flirting and throwing herself at me.

 

Out one night and I do my usual thing working the scene as I am the photographer of the night. I have a naturally confident personality and people are drawn to me. Later on when I am free, she beckons me over to chat. Mid conversation she strikes a conversation with a guy walking past; turning herself from me as I essentially sat their for over 3 minutes which at first I relaxed and enjoyed the conversation before I gave her a hug and left. I have been that nice guy doormat before and I refuse to ever be it again.

 

I have an original post which I admit I exaggerated partly as I wrote this while still peeved. I essentially walked off to grab a drink and mingle with the crowd. Yet I always felt her eyes on me. As this gathering was the last of our last class cohort, I gathered numbers off a few I'd never gotten; females and males alike. I'd do a double back to her but that's when she started ignoring me.

 

I ended up talking to a few girls (mutual friends) whom after a few were flirtatious. She was doing the same but I always felt an eye on me or otherwise I was doing the same. At one point I think she caught on to me as a girl grabbed my hand as we walked across a busy street.

 

Later that night I caught her again. And as we talked/ walked, it was the coldest conversation you'd ever get as if she was spilling vile. She was still preening herself as we talked and asked me how she looked; wiping her eyes at one point.

 

Long story short, she later ended the night early. Her friends later started quizzing me on what was going on as they too like me thought we were just friends but her actions tonight and over the last few days spoke otherwise and they were telling me how unfair it is on me.

 

I messaged her this morning to talk and she said she was busy but she'd get back to me about tonight to meet up. My gut though feels she's just trying to beat around the bush. I guess I am going into this with no expectations.

 

Has a talk ever really worked out? I thought things like this were meant to be easy! Up to this point I was still assuming we were just friends until she started ignoring me.
