pteromom Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I do not like long hair on guys. BUT - I do like a guy who is his own man. Cutting your hair simply because you think chicks like it is much less attractive than long hair. If you like your hair, keep it! However - do make sure it is maintained, styled, conditioned and cared for. Make sure your cut flatters your face.
joseb Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 So you get hit on by women? You're doing better than 90% of guys right there, long hair or not! What is it about having your hair so long that is really important to you?
Rydo Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I had to cut my hair for work. Apparently you can't be an accountant and cool. I find less girls like long hair but I'll still be growing mine when I'm in charge of the decisions. I was allowed to keep my stubble at least
thecrucible Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I don't like long hair on men because it seems feminine to me - I like ruggedness mmm...haha anyway each to their own . I think some men pull it off better than others and there is going to be someone who goes for it. Some guys also suit this look.
introverted1 Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 But do guys with long hair really put it up in a bun? That would look.... weird, IMO. The "man-bun" is having a moment, at least in the US. That said, OP, you should read this.
basil67 Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I'll be honest...it really sucks that I'm now realizing I have to choose between my hair (which is superficial and you'd think women would just get past it)...and my chances with a wider selection of women. It might suck, but hair says a lot about the 'tribe' we belong to. My daughter cut all her hair off a while back and shaved one side. Then all the boys thought she was a lesbian and stopped approaching her. She's getting a bit of length back into it now. Think about it - would you approach a girl who had butch hair? Same thing really. 2
jen1447 Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 IMO longish is fine, like wavy that's contained mostly in the general area of your head. Long down your back or over your shoulders in front is just bad, makes me think of 1980s hair bands.
lino Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I've had both long and short hair and had about equal success with both. I noticed that the longer hair attracted better quality women (ie less materialistic, superficial, etc) I think that if a woman is so quick to dismiss an otherwise quality man because of his hair length or style, she's too superficial to me. It's the equivalent of me fussing over a woman's hair colour. I simply don't worry about such minor things.
KatZee Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 The man bun is kind of ok still, but lots of girls laugh at those too. I'd pick something different. Yep. I don't know who told men that "man buns" are attractive, but they're not. As stated above by someone else, I like men who look like men. Of course there will still be women who are interested, but as you've noticed, it's not the majority. 1
Woggle Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Be who you are and the right woman for you will come along. Rockers from back in the day had long hair and were swimming in women so I wouldn't worry about it.

Come on, that's just ridiculous and hypocritical. Are you going to be attracted to a woman regardless of how she looks like? Have you absolutely zero superficial preferences? If a woman has a buzz-cut or a mohawk, should all guys just 'get over it' and date her regardless of what they might think about it? 4

Gaeta Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Remember Jon Bon Jovi in the 80s ? His hair was his trade mark. No one ever thought he would cut it off at some point. And when he did women around the world went : HOLY SH$T!! he was more handsome than we could have ever imagined. One of my brother had hair like you. We told him many times to cut it off. It's like he's stuck in the last era. He resisted for the longest time then finally we had a family ceremony in the kitchen and we shaved his head lol. Memorable. Then women started hitting on him like there's no tomorrow. Get something like this: https://themcelebrity.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/josh-holloway-10.jpg?w=700&h=
Versacehottie Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 So.... I'm a guy in his 20's... When I was a few years younger I had short hair. Not a buzz cut, but close enough. Anyways, since then, I've gotten much fitter (not that I wasn't before) and have a much better career and education. Really, the only thing to change about me other than that is that my hair (if I let it loose) is now almost down the middle of my back in a wavy/flowing way. I get stereotyped a lot by that: musician, hippie, drug addict, etc...even though I'm actually in the clinical sciences. The thing I've noticed now...is that I get hit on by about 90% fewer women than before. And the ones that do hit on me are nowhere near as attractive as the women I used to date. Is long hair/buns really THAT big of a turn-off to girls/women or am I missing something? Basically, yes! And the reason why partly is because it also typecasts you into a certain job/personality type. So it speaks a lot more maybe than you want it to say and maybe in your case doesn't accurately reflect who you are if you are getting girls that are not your normal type and NOT getting girls. But hey if you like it that much than along the way it will probably bring you the right girl. Typically I agree a lot of a certain type of girl will not be interested.
Versacehottie Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Yep. I don't know who told men that "man buns" are attractive, but they're not. As stated above by someone else, I like men who look like men. Of course there will still be women who are interested, but as you've noticed, it's not the majority. I've seen a FEW gorgeous guys with man buns at my gym. Copying David Beckham circa something, no doubt. That said, only a few can pull it off. And stereotyping of the man bun guys is this: they are affected and trying a little too hard but trying to pretend like they are not; they are gonna be more vain than whoever they are dating. It may not be true but these are the thoughts you'd have to overcome with some girls.
HeartDesires Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I guess a guy with long hair can throw it up in a bun - though that looks stupid in my opinion. It also makes me wonder if laziness is a contributing factor. Like it's just easier to pull it back instead of going for regular haircuts and spending time grooming and styling it.

While I'm generally not attracted to guys with long hair (IRL, at least), I really think this assumption is a bit of a stretch. Long hair that is clean and looks decent takes a lot more effort to maintain than a short cut.

Long hair that is clean and looks decent takes a lot more effort to maintain than a short cut. In my post I most certainly did not allude to this being a hygiene issue. Long hair can be pulled back in a ponytail or a bun....short hair requires more frequent cuts and is not entirely maintenance-free.
Author e4u Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Thanks to everyone for their opinions...I really do appreciate them. So...what would be better then? I'm currently at this in terms of style/color/length: http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/32100000/Men-with-long-hair-men-with-long-hair-32142237-465-700.jpg Which option, in terms of “medium” length, is best then? 1.https://40.media.tumblr.com/9420c708f7c82d1e4dad914316c8a0a4/tumblr_nuzok2Z39G1skioofo1_500.jpg 2. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/55/6a/ce/556aceb0c6068892b995bb23d1bf3377.jpg 3. http://parfait-francais.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Mens-Long-Hair-Styles-3.jpg Or do I just go to this, which is where I was at before, and is “the most masculine” look of all, I guess: 4. http://www.lustyfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Professional-buzz-cut-for-men.jpg
HeartDesires Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 No 3 is a very attractive cut, IMO.....

Long hair can be pulled back in a ponytail or a bun....short hair requires more frequent cuts and is not entirely maintenance-free. There is no way getting a 10-minute haircut every 1-2 months can compare to the maintenance needed for the hairstyle the OP linked in his first picture. Even if it's pulled back in a ponytail, it takes a lot of shampoo/conditioner, blow-drying, combing, etc. Like I said, I can understand why you wouldn't find that look appealing in a man, but 'lazy' really isn't what comes to mind when I see that.
xxoo Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I vote for 1 or 3. 1 is super yummy, but you've got to have the right face for it. The original pic is too feminine, even for me (a long hair and man bun lover). It depends on the natural hair. My hair is similar in length and texture, and I keep it that way because it's the lowest maintenance for me.
