I have a friend who is 21, in college, good looking, intelligent, active in school organizations and volunteers outside of school. She can count on one hand the number of relationships that she has had when the man approached her rather than she being the one who approached the guy. Since she has started college, she hasn't had a date. Guys never flirt with her. Pretty much, she's the girl who people ask "what time is it" or "how do you do this assignment".

She has small talk with guys that she knows, but no one ever asks her for her number or asks her on a date. Very old men and young teenagers do stare at her on the bus for hours on end, but guys her own age never take a glance. She has begun to wonder if there is something wrong with her. (Which I've assured her there is definitely nothing wrong with her....) Some of our friends say that she doesn't dress stylishly enough, (She doesn't wear makeup most of the time, hates jewelry for the most part, and her clothing is very Talbots, tall and tailored in Black, White, Cream, Brown and an occasional pair of jeans.) while she and I both feel that her clothing is both timeless and beautiful.

She goes to the clubs with me and my boyfriend, but guys don't approach her there either. She has also placed personal ads in the paper, with no responses.

Can someone offer any suugestions on how to help her find a date? She is concerned and I'd like to help her the best way that I can.

It sounds as if she's stylish but in a classic rather than a fashionable way. It's really for the guys to comment on this, but I'd be worried that she maybe dresses too much like a classy 40 year old to appeal to the men in her age group. Not that they wouldn't necessarily find the look attractive, but when they're students I think guys are looking for a bit of credibility. Not someone who, from a distance, might be mistaken for their very chic and trim mother.
