looks like every time I login, it keeps inform me today is this one and that one's birthday, 99% of whom I don't really care.

I unfollowed most of the people in my facebook, because I don't care what's going on in their life.

I hate the stupid 'like' button too. It's like a popularity competition.

I stopped posting on fb and I don't state my bday in fb as well.

I am on the verge of deleting it...but there are a few people there that it's the only way I keep them in my life.

It's like I am supposed to like people's posts and wish them happy bday. It's like I am owned by facebook.

Do it! Deactivate it!

Worst thing is when I am reminded that someone is dead.

I didn't particularly like Facebook, so I deactivated it years ago and haven't missed it at all. If there were people on there that were only in my life beacuse of Facebook, then I wasn't worried about losing such an insignificant connection.

I certainly never felt like Facebook owned me though!

Complaining about something but not doing anything about it won't get you anywhere.

Most things in life have associated pros and cons - weigh them up, make your choice, and move on.

I find that if you're not real a "social being" to start with, Facebook can make you feel bad/guilty. As if you are committed to something. A task you must do.

Like with anything else, if it's something that's bothering you, make a change.

I deleted it back in September. I don't miss it!!! I do miss my social events. But if people aren't making the attempt to be friends with me they should not be friends with me in real life....I've actually had people not talk to me in real life because either they or I deleted them off Facebook.

I have FB but I'm not addicted to it. I go on every so often to look at pictures, especially of people who are far away. If not for FB it would be much harder to stay connected to my sorority sisters from college. This way I get to see their kids grow up & I enjoy that.

You don't have to wish people happy birthday. You don't have to like anything. You can passively browse when you feel like it. It's a tool. You don't have to be a slave to it.

send a message to the people you need to stay in contact with giving them your phone number and deactivate your account. You can't really delete it, it will always be there waiting for you. Deactivating facebook changed my life. It's been about three months and I never miss it. My life is much better without it.

Probably over 90% of people on my fb I don't wish a happy birthday to. Most I hardly interact with, if at all.

I've minimized my FB down to family, close friends and business associates. A few high school and college classmates. That's it.

Makes it so much easier for me to deal with.

The problem about facebook is when you break up with a girl, she will, all of a sudden, have 10 friends more and all of them will be males...grrrr.

So when you break up with a girl you should totally delete her friendship...in the same moment of the break up.

And you will feel guilty that you've done it. That's normal....

It's up to you as to how you use it.

I don't have many people on my Facebook friends list, they are all friends in my real life, or members of my small family. I know and care about everyone on my list.

I really like it for keeping in touch, organizing parties and events, etc.

I dont do the Facebook "happy birthday" thing! I purposely do not particate in that. If I want to say happy birthday, I will send a message in a different way.

ya...there are a couple of people who used to like my posts. I feel like they are supportive of me, because I don't have many who like to like my posts.

so, when they post their pics I feel obligated to like their posts while at the same time I am genuinely really like their selfies. so it kind of make me feel that I am bad.

the like thing in facebook feels like exchanges.

yes. It all comes down to myself I guess. I should just have the self control not to login.

How important are these people really in your life that you only communicate via Facebook? I call BS on people who say things like "I only have FB to keep in touch with my family" like they never knew how to do it before Facebook existed. All Facebook is for is "look at me! Please please please give me some attention! Look I posted a picture of my food. Look I posted a picture of myself doing something. Look I posted a picture of my kids. Hey everyone, my son/daughter is going to school for the first time. Look at this gift my husband got me, jealous out there? Because I'm trying to make you jealous, so I hope you are. Somebody please give me some attention! I'll post more about how perfect life is. If that doesn't work, I'll post how I'm sad and see how much attention I get from that. Omg I need some attention all the time, like right now I neeeeeeeeed it" that's what Facebook looks like to me anyway, but I've never used it. I've only seen others use it I understand why it is so popular with highschool kids. They are always needy for attention, but full grown adults? I can only assume you live a sad sad life.

If you take offense to this post, good! That was my intention.

Actually Facebook isn't that popular with the high school crowd (they prefer instagram and some other platforms).

My parents are on FB, as are their friends (we are talking 60-70s). I love it when my dad's life long friend shares photos from their youth... And my youth!

I keep in touch with my cousin across the country, who I hardly had contact with before FB.

My friends posts their bbqs, dinner parties etc - its easy for us to organize whonis bringing what etc.

I never posts selfies, but I do enjoy landscape and urban photography, and I do share that.

Or if we are headed out of town and need a dog sitter... I am going to ask my friends on FB (along with a picture of my adorable dog).

I deleted my account from when I was in college. Then I made a new one but I deactivate it all the time to take a break. But, you know what I find worse? Instagram. Seriously, all people care about is getting likes on their photos. I even heard people buy fake followers. I just don't get it...makes me really sad actually!

Finally deactivated...but still pretty sure FB still keeps everything about me.

If FB has a negative impact on your life for some reason, delete it for your sanity.

As for me, I've had Facebook since college. Right along with our welcome package there was an email from our orientation leaders to join it and join a group to meet the incoming class. Facebook was new at the time and I had never heard of it and thought it was unique to my school. In fact, when I first got Facebook it was still when you needed to use your college email address to access it, so the only people who could use it were college kids.

I've had it since then and I go through phases where I use it more frequently and less. Over the years as it has become ubiquitous I tend to use it for the organizations I'm in, to RSVP to events, to find out about events and actually a lot of very practical things. I give out business cards but also add people on FB when I network. I'm a grad student so this is the norm. In any event, my personal life (relationships and such) don't make it to FB. I use it socially and professionally but not for intimate details of my life. That said, it doesn't control me, I'm not addicted, etc. When I see posts I dislike it's usually from people I barely know or went to high school with sharing their ill-informed opinions or over-sharing about their relationship, their haters and other nonsense. If I see too many things I dislike, I hide or delete them and go on my merry way. No harm, no foul. Facebook allows you to make your page as private as you want and to control just how much you want to see and not see, so I find that I can control Facebook to how I want it to be more than it controls me.
