I'm in my early 40s, going to a Halloween party with some potential interesting single men. Which would be a more appealing costume to guys? A gupsy/fortune teller (off the shoulder shirt, corset, hair down, long flowing skirt) or Audrey Hepvurn from Breakfastbat Tiffanys (black dress with spaghetti straps (not tight fitting), hair up in bun, etc)?

TIA!

I'm going to be masquerading a t-shirt as a dress.

Whichever of those is the more slutty of the two.

I don't know how people dress in your area, but both of those costumes would be very conservative in my area. Are you looking to get laid or are you looking for a potential relationship? If it's the former, the more revealing the costume, the more attention you'll get. Here are some examples from the last Halloween party I went to:

  • Two women with body paint instead of tops
  • Leeloo from Fifth Element (thermal bandages costume)
  • A bunch of pirates in low cut tops and short skirts
  • Power Girl
  • A Playboy Bunny

Are you looking to attract someone who is only after your looks?

If so then slutty = better.

Are you after a more meaningful relationship/boyfriend material?

If so then what you wear is irrelevant.

If you're looking for a relationship, wear a costume that reflects your interests or sense of humor.

I'm going as Ida Tarbell this year. Last year I was Poison Ivy. The year before that I was River Song. The year before that I was Hedy Lamarr. Have fun with it, have some passion, and that will shine through. I was more recognized as Poison Ivy and River Song but some awesome conversations came from those who recognized Hedy, and those who didn't.

Gypsy isn't bad at all. You can use the palm reading trick. Ask to read your crush's palm, then slowly raise his hand to your face while gazing intently into his eyes. Then lick the palm.

The gypsy sounds more costume-y & gives you an excuse to grab a cute guy's hand so you can read his palm.

Unless your crowd watches Breakfast At Tiffany's and somebody who looks a lot like George Peppard is standing nearby you will have to explain the Audrey Hepburn costume & people may think you got lost on your way to a black tie (ie you're at the wrong party)

At this point I am looking more for relationship than to get laid. There are also a number of women coming that don't wear slutty costumes (maybe our age group is less inclined to?), so I don't want to appear inappropriate to them as I'm trying to build friendships with the women as well.

Good question about whether or not people would get the Breakfast at Tiffanys reference. I think my generation knows the movie but it is from a long time ago....

It's interesting how girls are willing to approach and flirt with men on Halloween. If only they allowed themselves to do it everyday of the year, life for everyone would be so much easier.

One vampiress approached me and asked my blood type. To my answer she replied, (in a seductive voice) "Oh that's my favorite, and it's so rare!" It was simple, playful, not too over-the-top, and showed she was interested.

If you go to a HAlloween party, the point is to attract attention and meet men. Exchange phone numbers. Up to you how slutty or not. Attracting attention and putting yourself out there is the KEY goal here.

Don't over think it and don't think so much of how you want others to perceive you, but of what you feel comfy wearing and what suits you. You need to be able to pull it off, so whatever you wear, make sure you're natural in it.

cheers

Awesome perspective, Candie! Thanks!

Pogo - I suppose putting on a costume,

We feel we can act out of character. Of course, I've asked out two guys in the past to no avail, but maybe Halloween will be my time!
