New Gay Relationship Just Ended...Trying NC...Not working well

So I ended a relationship about a week ago that went on for only 3 short months. It ended because bottom line he was scared of commitment and I wanted to invest in the relationship more. So, he ended things. Does anyone have insight into anything specific to gay relationships when it comes to the NC policy? I have asked for space, he still texted me asking to see me and that he misses me and that he wants to get together, asking me to "please talk to him". We had a very amicable ending without many hard feelings and good communication about where we both we at. We haven't been able to keep up NC too long because I always feel it is rude or whatever. I want him in my life and am having a hard time rationalizing NC and it sounds like he wants to have his cake and eat it to. I know this thread is full of info about NC and I get it and am trying. I find myself not wanting NC.

 

I could use some advice on the this.
