Online profiles - can you write too much?

Do you all think that writing a lot on an online profile is actually a bad idea? I ask because I've had several profiles and my responses always seem to decline precipitously when I added more information. Lol. I thought that telling more about me would be good, but perhaps these folks either found me boring or had nothing else to ask? I try not to write books (because who wants to read all that?), but I like to put enough on there so others have a general idea about me before they write.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if perhaps you are less likely to write someone with a more detailed profile? Thanks!

Since most people here want to remain anonymous, the more information provided in a profile the more that anonymity is diminished. I do wish people would post their ages somewhere because very often the advise we give very much hinges on the age of the person seeking it and where they are in life.

This is a good observation. I think it may have more to do with what you're writing than with how much.

From your post, I get the sense that you're a guy, probably in his early twenties. Guys generally write a ton about themselves, and it becomes repetitive for the girls who scan the profiles. Two pieces of advice:

1. Look at how many sentences in your profile begin with "I." Try to limit them. Focus more on writing something that will foster conversation.

2. Take some time to read other guy's ads. Get a sense of how they all blend together and try to distinguish yours.
