purpledooze Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Just venting. And an update. I've been feeling a lot better lately after reading this book about how to handle your emotions when things fall apart. Been working out. Swimming every Tuesday. Yoga every Thursday. I'm not dating yet. I actually prefer to be alone and focus on more important things. Couple of weeks ago, I'm getting friend requests from blank Facebook accounts created 2015. Blank = no posts, no pics, no friends. Nah, can't be him. Might be the girlfriend. Two days ago, I got 3 ghost calls on my homephone (phone rings, I answer, no one at the other end). I changed my mobile number so he or his gf can't call me there. Yesterday, I log on Goodreads to post a review about the book I just read. I've been lounging around Goodreads as part of my recovery. Posting reviews about the self-help books I've been reading about dealing with grief. I see his name on top of my notifications feed -- his first activity since 2012. Today, I get a text alert from Facebook warning me that someone tried to log into my account, and that my account was temporarily locked. Facebook shows you the IP address, the location/map from where your account was accessed and the type of computer used (Mac/PC). I trace the IP. I manage to get the name of the ISP. So I put up the IP on 4chan and request for a DDoS attack for an hour. While that was happening, I watched his Skype status dance between offline and online. And his VPN connection to our servers at work disconnect/reconnect. I ask for them to stop the attacks; his connection becomes stable. Location trace points to somewhere close to his condo. His ISP. On a Mac. He's a Mac user. Nice try dip****, I tell myself. You messed with the wrong nerd. Of course. I could be wrong in assuming it's him. It could be his other ex or his girlfriend or whatever. Which means they could be having problems. After a few days, I'll be able to dismiss this and move along.
Frank13 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) I don't know where you live but in the USA DDoS is a federal crime. The maximum statutory penalty for conspiracy to cause intentional damage to a protected computer could result in as much as five years imprisonment, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000, plus restitution if appropriate. Even threatening to cause damage (such as via DDoS) to a protected computer is against the law. A protected computer is defined, among other things, as one used in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce or communication. As a result, practically any computer, cell phone, smart phone, tablet, notebook, netbook, laptop, desktop and other types of computerized devices are susceptible because of the obvious inter-state nature of most Internet communications. I'm kind of shocked you would admit doing that on a public forum. Edited October 24, 2015 by Frank13
Author purpledooze Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) Right now, I'm not in the US. He/she kind of tried to hack into my account first, which is, harassment, technically. Not to mention the ghost calls. Anyway, turns out it wasn't the ex-bf, but his other ex-gf. She just unblocked me on Facebook a few moments after I posted a warning. Whatever this game is I'm not playing it anymore. I sent my ex one brief message: "GTFO my life. Respect my privacy or I will retaliate." Edited October 24, 2015 by purpledooze
