Actually that show was HARPER VALLEY PTA!

OMG oMG That reminds me of a story: LMAO My friend and I were S&TC die hard fans and well she has had an on and off relationship with her ex JOHN for about 6 years now and we would watch Mr Big and Carie and she would say OMG hes just like John I swear Ugh I hate MR Big... So then we met up and are watching the last episodes and BOOOOM His name is freaking JOHN!!!!! We screamed so loud and cracked up for like an hour!!!! So yeah now she thinks its a 'sign' and that her and her ex will end up together and married.

Ok, it's the NY gloss too! The characters are charming, and hey, Vogue and the rest of them accessories. But don't let that fool you: it's ABOUT WOMEN sticking out for eachother. That's the core subject, no matter how much you think it's the shoes and purses .

I completely agree. Showing people lives that for the most part they can never live.

OK CIA. but if the scenario show I stated about about the 4 red neck women living in a trailer pk in Kansas City was also about women sticking out for each other and their relationships i highly doubt any women would have watched it. I mean, who cares about poor, disadvantaged, non-glamorous women sticking out for each other in middle america? right?

NOW that is a funny show!

I understand your point, but why the f do you have to mention Kansas City? Some areas near KC are actually some of the wealthiest in the country. You're probably thinking ' take it easy. I was just a joke', but I take offense at people referring to Kansas City as hick territory unless they're actually from there and joking amongst fellow Kansas Citians. Anyway, I watched SatC a couple times and couldn't stand it. Those women need psychiatric help just like the guys who behave like they do. They're completely shallow, self-absorbed, and weak women. From what I saw, they seem like all-around bad people. I fail to see how it's supposed to be empowering to women.

I don't watch SATC.
alphamale Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 Originally posted by crazy_grl I understand your point, but why the f do you have to mention Kansas City? sorry i just picked a city at random. i'm from detroit so trust me i know what it is like when people rip on the city you are from. a thousand pardons. I totally agree with this. If it had been reversed with 4 male characters partying and banging women left and right and all that sheeyot the feminazis would have been all over it like white on rice.

If it had been reversed with 4 male characters partying and banging women left and right and all that sheeyot the feminazis would have been all over it like white on rice. SATC is about women. Rich, fabulous, American, living in New York women. And it's the whole mix that sells. I don't care about a tv serie about men. Maybe it would be fun, maybe just pathetic. Maybe if those women were Swedish, no one would have watched the show. Maybe if they were drifters no one would have watched the show! SO yeah, SATC is selling everyone the American dream. And we're buying. It never is about the product, IMHO, it's about the marketing mix. And they did do a brilliant job as far as this show is concerned. I've never taken SATC seriously, because it's ENTARTAINMENT. It's supposed to keep you entertained, and maybe, just maybe, give you a thing or two to think about. Or laugh about. It sure is funnier than Allie McBill !
Author tiki Posted May 20, 2005 Author Posted May 20, 2005 See...here's the dealio. All you S&TC lovers should hang here. We can talk Big, Aiden, schtuff like that. We can let it warp our twisted minds. For those who don't like S&TC - you guys can complain on Tanbark's (AKA doorknob dude's) thread. You can voice your complaints there about how it's corrupting women's minds. I like S&TC. I think it's sometimes a little racey for TV...but I like it!

st8toftheheart Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 There is a difference when entertainment becomes something you model you life after. TV is influential without a doubt, and what they are pedaling is an idea. And idea that all too often people adopt. Sometimes for the good sometimes for the bad.
CurlyIam Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I'm definately sticking around, tiki! (and posting on tan's thread to spite 'em )

Like you said, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. But you always have a choice. Ignorance is never an excuse, unfortunately. As far as entertainment is concerned, you actually have the choice not to have a TV ! Like me! I'm happy. And informed. And with a LOT of free time, LOL!
