Hi all

Can anyone recommend any good books to help me get over my ex?

I'm not a spiritual person so not really looking for anything like that and don't really go along with the whole "everything happens for a reason" stuff.

It's more self help and being happy I'm after.

Thanks :)

If you want to learn how to feel better by exercising some control over your thoughts and beliefs, A Guide to Rational Living by Albert Ellis. Feeling Good by David Burns is based on Ellis' theory/method with some reader friendly CBT exercises. The latter is often recommended by therapists, and it has gotten a lot of people through difficult times.

If you're a theoretical-intuitive type you'd probably enjoy The Moral Animal by Robert Wright. It's not really a "feel good" book, but it's damn good and it will help make sense of a ton of stuff related to the question, "why are we the way we are?" One of my favorite all time books in fact.

I am more of the Buddhist mindset. Realizing that life is suffering and nothing (including our connections to people/things) is permanent can take the edge off. The notion that all beings suffer can help to feel less alone, and lead to treating yourself and others in more compassionate ways. Learning to recognize and resist letting the ego take over is very important in changing your overall healing/growing process.

I'm doing more meditation these days, so don't have any new book ideas to offer. I did read 'A New Earth' by Eckhart Tolle a while back and it always seemed to make me feel better. I still refer to it from time to time.

Cool thanks. I've just ordered "feeling good". Seems like the sort of thing I was after. Will let you know how I get on.

I second this recommendation wholeheartedly. It's excellent and I recommend it often as well. It helped me tremendously as I was going through divorce a few years ago. Tolle is a believer and it has a few religious references, but the message and value not dependent upon it; it will work for anyone.

I just read The Breakup Bible by Rachel Sussman and it helped me immensely. It's all about understanding why you ended up in this situation and how you can avoid selecting relationships that are destined to fail in the future. It's a quick read, too.

Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

No More Mr Nice Guy by Robert Glover (written for a male audience, but can beneficial for females too)

Many, many more, but these are 2 very good ones!!
