Wisecrack Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Why are my alarm bells ringing when I hear her say this? Is this such a bad thing? Admittedly my past has been littered with this remark and it has never been a good one. Except this time round, I am not the pandering guy that stuck around getting walked on. Just still being polite and a gentleman though having a spine and not dropping everything I am doing for a girl.

Just still being polite and a gentleman though having a spine and not dropping everything I am doing for a girl. So in what context/situation did she bring it up? As long as you know you are not the pandering, spineless kind of nice guy, then say "why thank you for the compliment". But I suspect you feel perhaps you are still exhibiting that behaviour to some extent, or you wouldn't be so bothered by the comment?
carhill Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 My version from those decades was 'you really care!' Translation: Nice guy but no dating interest, at least from dozens of similar interactions over the decades. The word that stuck out in my mind in the title was 'those'. Heh, you've been classified. If actions support a dating and sexual milieu, continue as you see fit. If other, even a little, move on. Dry hole. You can be a nice guy and hot to a particular lady. If there aren't signs of the latter, well there's your sign.
PegNosePete Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 "Nice guy" = doormat. But the commonly held myth, that the opposite of a "nice guy" is a bad boy, is not true. You can be confident, gentlemanly, chivalrous, generous, and nice, without being a "nice guy". Mostly it's about the confidence. A guy who is nice but lacks confidence is a "nice guy" and will constantly get friend-zoned. A guy who is nice and has confidence is a great catch.
