lobsterbabe Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 well? do they? or would it freak them out? see, i've been dating this guy exclusively for about 6 weeks now. he's currently out of town on a biz trip and will pick him up at the airport this coming friday. im thinking about giving him flowers when i greet him there (since he mentioned he likes white/peach roses). will it be too much???? i don't want to scare him off...

But if you think he likes them, it's not a faux pas. Just unusual. Personally, it wouldn't scare me off, but I have to say I can think of better presents.

I guess I just don't understand why you would give him flowers. Men usually think about flowers from the side of the giver, not the recipient. Why do we give them, then, is the question. We give them to women because women like them, not because we think they are pretty. If women liked steak and beer, we would give them that. I generally would not advise giving gifts that early in the relationship, but if you have your heart set on suprising him with something, perhaps something like an ipod accessory or travel pillow (assuming he travels for business regularly). Don't think what you would want as a suprise gift - think of what he would want.
Author lobsterbabe Posted May 18, 2005 Author Posted May 18, 2005 thanks for the replies. i guess guys don't mind it but would prefer to get something else. romeo: uhh, you could put them in a vase, you know. alphamale: what do you mean he's a fairy? scratch and ntb: no, im not giving him any kind of surprise gifts (just a rose). like you said, it's way too early in the relationship. actually he and i were at the airport last sunday night to pick up a friend of his. i noticed a man waiting right next to us and was holding flowers. so i told him, "isn't that sweet? he has flowers for his wife/gf?" then he said, "yes it is. how come i don't get flowers?" i knew he was just joking but then again, i think it'll be a nice gesture from my part (or at least that's what i think)... i was just thinking more like a single stem of rose (you know, the ones you could get for like $1 at a gas station). i was thinking about just giving him fudgsicles since he loves it (i mean REALLY loves it) but i figured by the time i get to the airport, park, and wait for him, the fudgsicles would be gone. (either by it be melting away or by me eating it.. )...

stewh Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I wouldn't want to sound selfish as everyone always says that it is the thought that counts but receiving flowers would not be something that would make me think 'wow, this girl could be the one for me'. Especially receiving them in the middle of an airport! Why don't you pick him up from the airport, take him back to yours and treat him to a nice dinner with some wine or something and put some of these flowers on the table for him to notice. I'm sure he would appreciate the effort you had put into all that and your attention to detail You never know he most likely will return the favour in some way afterwards Good luck with it what ever you decide!

noname Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 can't speak for all men, cause some might really like them... personally i don't really like flowers unless they are in their natural habitat. although i would appreciate the thought, they have no use except to look pretty for a few days and then they die. i don't think men put the same emotional value on flowers as women do in general though. we like things that are more useful, or uhhh edible...

Personally I like flowers and I've received them several times. I like them because of the way they look and smell and how they remind me to "take time out to smell the roses."

But now that it has happened a couple times I do have to admit that I enjoy it. I've had a couple girls send me flowers at work and on the outside I play it off like but inside I'm secretly like . It also makes me feel like a pimp because the other girls at work start asking questions. If your guy went so far as to joke around about you getting him flowers, then I would bet money that he would enjoy the gesture at the airport.
