I was never ever with anyone who was shorter than me (I'm 5 foot 7, or 170 cm). Then I met a guy who is 5 foot 5, 165 cm. I do not care in the slightest. Neither does he. Sex is perfect height wise.

I am usually attracted to someone or not, based on chemistry and person, not the looks.

I had the pleasure of being with some of the most gorgeous guys I ever saw. With some - no chemistry. With others - no love. That is why it was a pleasure being with them as it taught me what is important in a relationship.

Now in my mid thirties when I see someone who is objectively gorgeous I can not be bothered to look at them twice or to keep my eyes on them just a little longer... I see them and I don't. I honestly feel one giant MEH about their good looks.

Good looks do not even mean good sex. Let alone anything else.

If guy is a guy it will not matter if he is a bit shorter. Height does not make a man. See how you feel with someone and let that be your guide OP.

i'm 5'10 and my most serious relationship was with a guy 5'8. i think you went 'down' too far OP. if you stay within 2 inches of your own height (without heels) you won't feel it as much, if at all. 2 inches is really nothing, but 4 starts to just feel weird to most tall women. it really does make a tall woman feel less feminine to be with a shorter man, so give shorter guys a chance but not shorter than 5'7 for you. ime. since most tall men gravitate to short(er) or average-height women your chances of securing a great guy actually increase when you willingly go down in that height preference by a smidgen.

At the risk of sounding cynical, it's amazing what sex appeal a short guy exudes, when he has a 'long, tall Sally' of a Bank account.

The world of celebrities is full of short (rich) not-necessarily-drop-dead-gorgeous guys with beautiful tall partners on their arms....

Take Mickey Rooney.

Take Dudley Moore.

Take Bernie Ecclestone

Take Tom Cruise (Ok, he IS good looking - but much is made of his lack of vertical bonus!)

As a woman who is 5'9 I find myself very turned off by guys who are shorter than me.

Those are fighting words on here, OP ;)

Women are so obsessed with height but get angry and upset when men want slim women.

To top it off, height is something one can't really control but weight can be controlled.

Is that some women, or all women?

Height can indeed be changed. But better to be accepted.

Earlier this year I briefly dated a man who was about 5'5 and I was unable to find him physically attractive due to his height.

I'm curious, how do men feel about women who was much taller than them? How does it make you feel?

I am 6'5'' so if any woman was my height or close to it, that would be some Deuce Bigelow stuff, turn off.

You don't need to make a height to weight analogy. Some women may not be into shorter guys, but some guys are also not into taller women, as you can see below. For some people of both genders, height is an issue.

im 6 foot 7 and i dont like women over 6 foot.

never dated a woman taller than me which is 183cm. I prefer women shorter than 170cm.

she wears heels and I have to take that into consideration. I did date a woman who was 178cm and she wore heels and I felt emasculated. she was not fat but she didnt have a stick figure. she had a nice figure but at 178cm she felt big. I preferred my ex who was 163. perfect height. she rested he head on my chest and It felt perfect.

short guys like to nab taller women. its some kind of challnege and an accomplishment.

I couldn't do it. And its not because I'd feel intimidated or emasculated. I just feel zero attraction for girls who are very tall. I'm 6'3", but my average dating height is probably around 5'2". I've tried seeing taller girls too. A lot of them come on very strongly when they see me but I usually politely turn them down.

The feeling is mutual. Im 5 foot 5 and my last girlfriend was 5 foot 7. She was taller than me when she wore her heels but she didnt care what other people though.

I find women who are 5 foot 9 and over are a turn off.

Jesus. You might want to find a sense of self somewhere that is not determined by external factors. It's called self esteem. This is just about the weirdest thing I've read on this board so far.

Sure, everyone likes what they like. As a guy slightly taller than the man OP was dating, does it really matter to me? Nope. People have to be secure in themselves. For me, if we get along and enjoy each other's company why not? What bearing does a man's height have on his potential to be a suitable match? If a woman judges me based on my height. Fine, her loss. I was a triple athlete, in great shape, and have a lot going for me. A man feeling emasculated by a woman's height is pretty sad. If that's the only characteristic that determines his manhood, then he is doomed from the start. I'd laugh it off and say something like, "Hey, at least now someone in my family will have the opportunity to dunk a basketball one day :)" or "I'd take off my hat, but I don't want you dropping crumbs in my hair :)". Make her laugh and go about our day.

look how hard youre trying to convince others that shrimpism is ok. thats even sadder. some women dont like short guys some women dont mind. the same with men. if a women doesnt want a short guy then she doesnt want a short guy. move on to someone who doesnt mind. trying to convince them youre an athlete and have a lot going. it doesnt matter. you saw the 20/20 documentary called short men get short shrift? take a look on youtube. they made the short guys successful but no matter what they told the women, they didnt care. they wanted the tall man.so save your preaching to the women who like short guys. and I can tell you that the majority of women want the guy to be taller than them. just make sure to write 6' in your OLD profile so when they do a filtered search youll at least get a women to see you.

thanks, for the feedback. and your height is? so all women who want a tall guy have self esteem issues also? did you ever do OLD? I couldnt tell you how many women write "if youre shorter than 180cm, dont contact me" even short women write. take a look at my profile picture. I have no issue with self esteem. it just feels horribly wrong to date a woman whos as tall or taller than me. if youre short dont play down nature. the majority of women want the guy to be taller than them. period.

 It's hilarious how none of the "it's biology!" dudes are piping up here to defend the OP. I guess it's only 'biology' when we're talking about a man's physical preference, but 'shallow' when we're talking about a woman's physical preference?

Anyway, to answer the OP's question, I've noticed that many guys do prefer women of equal height or shorter, though some are okay with taller. Similarly for women, just the other way round. But really though, in virtually every country the average height for men is a good few inches taller than the average height for women. That, in addition to the fact that some people just don't care much about height, mostly makes this a non-issue.

That's a crock of bull.

I'm a female and don't blame men at all for not wanting to date obese or overweight women. Everyone's attracted to what they're attracted to and I think it's ridiculous to shame men because they find fat unattractive. IMO, It IS unattractive.

Just found out that the height of the girl I want to date is 1.79m (5'9") while I'm 1.72m (5'7"). I'm not insecure about my height and don't make a big deal out of it but I don't know if she likes shorter guys. And to make things worse, I'm 5 years younger than her although she said that I'm VERY mature for my age.

It only matters to some girls, I'm 5'9 but tend to date girls around 5'7/8.

In answer to your question, it only matters to the girl you're dating because everyone is completely different, try not to be insecure about your height know it's hard and it is affecting your vision of yourself or you wouldn't have posted this question. I've just came back from Copenhagen where 90% of the women were really tall, didn't stop me chatting to some of the most beautiful women I've ever met, even the 6' ones ;)

Pretend it doesn't matter dude, make fun of it (we'll be the same height lying down etc.) and you'll do fine!

"Tall, dark, and handsome".

I sometimes wonder just how old that phrase is. I would guess at least 200 years.

Yes.

At (barely) 5'1" tall, I refuse to date a man shorter than I am.

Thanks for your reply! Do you think the 7 cm difference between us is a noticeable difference? Also, as I mentioned in my original post she's also 5 years older. I'm a bit worried that I will look like a child to her althogh I have a beard, act and look very mature

Yes.

It would be hard to find a guy shorter than you though ;)

@ OP, the question is, do you really want to date a girl taller than you are long term? If you do just give it your all.

Yes, I don't care about her height or age. Also, I prefer a long term relationship

I'm 5'3" and also prefer a man taller than me. No preference other than that.

Posted

I'm only 5'3", but damn I'd be lying if I told you height doesn't matter. It actually matters big time for me. I actually have never dated someone who's shorter than 5'9". But then again, to some girls, height doesn't matter at all, more power to them as they have more men to select from. I guess when it all comes down to it, just be confident, and if you don't mind a girl being taller than you when she's wearing heels, or just taller than you, and you show her you being confident regardless of your height, you already are much more attractive to them.

Posted

I am 5'7" on a good day, and I do quite well in the dating department. I'm sure some women have ruled me out over it, but I haven't noticed. I sometimes date women taller than me, but never more than 5'9". I like feeling I'm with a model, and I tell them that.

I think it depends on the woman, and also other qualities the guy has.

I do like petite coz when I hug them, I completely envelope them. :)

I'm a tall guy anyway, have large everything, but definitely not fat at all.

I wil take any size as long as she isn't fat.

Height is not a deal breaker for me.

5'10" is average height in the USA. I don't think you can really start throwing around the short label until you get into the 5'7" and below territory.

If you think Mel Gibson, Usher, Simon Cowell, or even Eminem are short, you are ****ing crazy! Do you really notice a 1 or 2 inch difference? Do guys really notice a 5 or 10 lb difference?

Sometimes, I really do think women are worst than men.

Posted
Do you really notice a 1 or 2 inch difference?

It seems like a small difference, but I think 2 inches is probably noticeable. I'm just over 5'5". I have friends who are 5'3". Even when we're the same weight, they just look more petite - they're seen as short ladies - they've been called short. I'm average - never been called short in my life. Only two inches, but for some reason it seems noticeable to people.

I like a woman to be smaller than me, but seeing I'm around 6 foot, it's not really an issue.
