Telling her she's awesome & gorgeous right off the bat is sucking up in a sniveling way. She knows what she looks like. The fact that you messaged her tells her that you are attracted to her. You don't have to say it again. It really rings as needy & is highly off putting.

 

I don't follow this logic. Which woman doesn't like to be complimented? I would always like one more compliment even if I have already received 1000 haha

 

I also don't see how saying "i like you" rings needy. I would be flattered.

Oh, it's because women hear it too often from strangers. After a while it loses its meaning, and it's just blah blah blah. Also, online men paste in the same message to a lot of women. When the same compliment is given to practically every woman, it doesn't mean anything. The compliment is not disliked, it just doesn't stand out.

He's responding to a Profile. He doesn't even know her. Hence, my extreme dislike of such messages. It rings sooooo fake.

 

 

I would have no problem with hearing that or another compliment after a meeting but not as the 1st message.

 

 

In the end, the OP & every other OLD participant needs to be true to themselves & do what rings true for them personally.

True to some extent. A gorgeous picture can sometimes overcome a blah message while a fantastic message can't spark physical chemistry but leading with a strong message is never a bad thing, Since it's the internet, having a good photo & something to say beyond the usual drivel is a plus.
