What "dafook" is 'yum' anyway?

Unless someone is more able to articulate their interest, they've lost mine..... I don't go in for Juvie-speke....

How does this message make you feel?

It makes me think, "Oh great, another annoying sleaze bag"

Ha!

Then, umm, don't respond.

Well...it's obvious he finds you attractive... but being so overt and forward would make me think he's appraising the physical without considering the intellect.... and in it for the "culinary satisfaction"....

Yum? Lol that's terrible. (I'm sure you are pretty and with a slice of yum and all but what a cheesy line!) How old was this person?

It sounds as though he's decided he'd like to eat you, thus the yum. Sounds awfully creep to me.

His profile says he's 40.

Maybe he is a cannibal

?

Possible. I'm sticking with creepy though.

As a guy, I always feel slightly embarrassed for my gender reading crap like this.

I'm all for setting a bit of a sexual undertone and being assertive. But that happens in person after you've established some type of normal rapport. A slimey opening email is not the way to start and if that crap actually did work, would you want to date a woman w/such low self esteem?

Oh please, women love being complimented on their appearance and to be found sexy. Seriously why is it a bad thing that someone made it apparent that they find you sexy and attractive? It may not have been the most clever message but it's hardly crass, assuming it's within a dating site context or similar.

Also...we're all strangers on the internet. Hone your own natural compass for such things!

I'm going to play devils advocate a bit here, and say that it's not such a terrible message.

It's definitely better than "hey, how is you're day going" or "Sup?"!

I would not write it myself, but if a girl messages me this, and if otherwise her profile/pics were ok, I wouldn't write her off at all.

I'm so glad there are men out there who try this.

Love it. And then if he responds wittily you've got some banter going and who knows where it might lead?

Love it!

I occasionally have some fun and write something like 'so i'm new to all this OLD... are we officially dating now?' and I've had some pretty great conversation starters from that! haha

Posted

Er....yumm.... did you write that to her, then....?

Actually, I agree that well-placed humour is very good at breaking the ice - as yumm so eloquently illustrates.... I just think you have to try to 'read' the situation, and maybe that initial comment from Mr Unknown Guy was perhaps a little pushy for a first attempt....

By all means try humour, but don't stray into the creepy and physical... that's inappropriate, really....

It's rather like yumm's comment...

'so i'm new to all this OLD... are we officially dating now?'

Which is funny, against -

'so i'm new to all this OLD... are we officially on for some sex, now?'

Which actually, isn't....

Not if it was the only message I got and the guy who sent it looked like Sendhil Ramamurthy.

It's creepy, shows no engagement with the profile, and focuses on looks.

Would assume he was either desperate and didn't care about my intellect/personality, or only after sex.

Ugh no. I wouldn't even even bother clicking on his profile with that opener

Hahaha! No, unfortunately I didn't, I know that's ironic considering my username but ah well :D

Yeah, I do see how it can sound creepy, I'm not the one to go send a first message about being intimate or physical either, it's just that with OLD to say the stereotypical 'hey, how's it going' doesn't get much response so I tend to find some funny ice breakers. Many actually like that one!
