singlelife Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Any tips on how this is done? I know guys who do it all the time. I also hear stories of girls who want to get laid that work in these jobs. What's the deal?
ExpatInItaly Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Any tips on how this is done? I know guys who do it all the time. I also hear stories of girls who want to get laid that work in these jobs. What's the deal? Who the h*ll told you that? I have done both jobs in my younger years and certainly wasn't looking for action. I was, you know, trying to make money! Shocking, huh? If you want to meet women, be gracious and engaging. Talk to them. This applies to women in any job. To assume that you have a better shot with waitresses or bartenders is rather misogynistic and naive.
d0nnivain Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Don't believe everything you hear. It's an art at best because people in the hospitality business are paid to be nice to the customers. It increases tips. My advice: chat them up. Find out what they do outside of work. Then see if they would like to do that with you. Remember they will have odd hours & as part of their jobs, other men will flirt with them. If you can't that, don't bother. She is not going to quit because you decide you don't like her job. 2
Vercetti Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Many women I worked with wore fake wedding rings to quickly blow off the ENDLESS dolts hitting on them when trapped at work pretending to be nice. 2

What's the deal? It's difficult. Just don't, really. Most of these girls are bold enough to make the first move on you if they like you so don't start wasting their time by hitting on them. They will come to have a nice chat if they fancy you. It you're really set on it just make sure you are as attractive as possible the moment they pass by you (have a pretty girl or two with you and tell a joke so they'll laugh when she passes close by, these things do not go unnoticed). But really, if it's a busy night, those girls aren't going to be thinking about dating or getting laid or anything fun at all, they're going to be thinking about serving as many people as quickly as possible while collecting a nice tip.
Fuerza Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I honestly have never taken anyone serious that wanted to flirt with me. For me, as a waitress it just puts me in a weird position. I'm working so I obviously can't start chatting away with a guy that's interested. And I always get the vibe that there aren't true intentions, they just find me attractive and want to get in my pants. Heck I've even had married men flirting with me while their wife was watching, disgusting. So personally I would say flirting with a waitress would be a lot more difficult to be taken serious, as we get flirted with all the time. So you'd have to really step up your game and prove you're not a creep
Buck Turgidson Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Hitting on waitresses is a pretty douchebaggy thing to do, given that they're a captive audience paid to be nice to you. Hit on people who are free to walk away without it potentially costing them their livelihoods. 1
fitnessfan365 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I've approached and chatted up women in many settings. But one rule I've always had is never doing it where a woman works. 1) She has to be there and it's not good to make her feel potentially uncomfortable. Especially in front of other co-workers. 2) Women in customer service are paid to be nice and you can't really take any of it seriously romantically.

What's the deal? I could tell you how to do it but I doubt my techniques would work for you, sorry. One protip - bartenders are generally more prone to it than waitresses.
oberkeat Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 (edited) For gods sake, do not hit on waitresses and bartenders. As others have mentioned, you are the customer and she is the server. That has an inherent power balance that you better understand right now. And do you know how many drunk dudes hit on these girls night after night? The last time I was at a bar I felt terrible watching all the drunk guys trying to pick up the female bartender. I felt sorry for the gal. Some of them were crusty older men who were clearly too old for her. Edited September 6, 2015 by oberkeat

What's the deal? IME, most waitresses (I generally don't go to bars so no experience with that) are either in relationships or married so some guy has successfully hit on them and continues to gather their attention and loyalty even in the face of constant interaction with and attention from men. My only tip would be to get any interactions of the 'picking up' sort away from work and strike while the iron is hot. If the initial interaction trends to the atypical customer service interaction, suggest that it be continued outside of work. If she's made her mind up about you in a positive way in that short period and is available, it'll happen. Otherwise, smile and move on.

Some of them were crusty older men who were clearly too old for her. Orignally I agreed with the above but I took a fancy to a bartender. I told my friends I liked her but disagreed with asking her as she was at work. One of my friends I should go for it as she met her husband while she was at work and he was a customer. Anywat, I strolled up to the bar and gave her my number. I guess she liked my confidence as the next day she text me. That was a year ago and we are now FBook friends and we are close. Sometimes as a man. You need to take risks in dating.
Gary S Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Why not find a real girlfriend? Monogamy and marriage is the best way to avoid broken hearts, disease, and unplanned pregnancy. Women in love do it better.
