why is it that you can want someone for ages and then finally give up on them and then AFTER you've told them you're not interested in them anymore they are suddenly interested?????????????????????????????????????

Because they're shallow and immature. They can't make up their minds what they want - but if it's unavailable it becomes more interesting.

it is human nature, plain and simple. the law of supply and demand. read up on it.

Selfishness - people don't want someone else having more than they do so even if they don't truly want it they'd rather claim it than allow anyone else to possibly benefit from it.

"law of scarcity." We all know this one: people want what they can't have and by constantly being available, you diminish your value. If every time you walked outside your front door there was a huge pile of diamonds to step over, you'd hardly see them as precious would you? The law of scarcity only makes them want you. Be around and then not around and they'll want and like you.

Its like when a child is sitting on the floor playing with a toy car. He is completely ignoring his set of blocks. You walk over to his set of blocks and pick one up. Suddenly he wants the block more than anything in the world.

I said it in an earlier thread.

"The thrill of the chase is always more exciting than after the captiure. You never appreciate anything that is easy to have. That is why people play "love" games. They want to know that what they have was hard to have and not easy to keep. People, by nature, appreciate a challenge."

It's human psychology and nothing more.
