I think we can all agree that life is hard and life can suck and there are so many cynical and serious stressed out people because of it. So when you meet a woman who's happy, innocent, not beaten up by the real world, positive and childlike is that an attractive thing? I mean it's rare and I personally think it's beautiful and should be preserved and untainted. What do you think?

Of course! And if she's hot and doesn't seem to know it - even better. ;)

Of course happy and positive is good but why do you emphasise on "childlike"?

I suppose you can be stupidly positive . That might lead you to do stupid things and that's just frustrating to people around you

Hahaha I already said I adore it. My name is TweetyGirl because I like that name and I don't have to be a girl to have it.

you know what these type of women invariably attract? either men who want to bring storm clouds into their life and darken their happiness, or men who are likewise innocent and charming and optimistic to the point of being useless. it's always awesome to meet someone with the personality you described, but it's not all that easy to match them imo

I can definitely see that. I enjoy acting like a kid a lot when I can. As long as it's not a fake personality & she can be serious and mature when needed, I don't see a problem.

i love some childlike optimism, but beware when you have to discuss problems or get into an argument.

Her acting chldlike is suddenly a lot less appealing!

optimism is easy when you aren't either overlooked,or harassed/bully/abused.

I don't hurt others .. but these happy people don't see the seriousness in how they violate me. High in the sky -- everything is sunshine and rainbows. looking down on people is a horrible thing to do.

I could feel like life still has promise if these better than thou people can learn to mind their own business!!

**** childlikeness when you're being enslaved violated and used

People have a variety of tastes, but nothing drives me crazier than hopeless optimism.

Sure, it's great to look at the good, but sooner or later life *will* kick you in the teeth. I want someone who isn't afraid to deal with that kind of hardship head on. The last thing I need is someone who falls apart when things become *difficult* and refuses to see the situation in a realistic light.

As I said though, personal preference :)

Perhaps it is my age, but childishness in a partner turns me completely off. Perhaps it is ok with teenage girls, but not with grown women. Optimism and positivity are good traits though as long as it is tempered with sense and intelligence.

No, not at all... but I feel like I'm probably an exception. I find innocence in adults highly unattractive.

My ideal lady sees the world as bittersweet. She displays this with intelligence and humor... yes that would be sexy. Bittersweet is perfect.

Add confidence into the above and you have the very thing I look for above all else.

Suffice to say its extremely attractive, to me at least.

I don't know why cynical is seen as negative. Cynical + sense of humor is my ideal combination

I dated a woman once who specifically told me: "(paraphrasing like a mofo here) "you act too young, boy-like, always happy and bouncing about...I don't like that, a man is measured and calm, controlled, serious.)

I left her soon after...

I like a women that knows things can go wrong that isn't conceited.

Absolutely. One of the things I look for in a partner. I need it to balance me out.

I enjoy paying attention to how particular posters respond to questions like this.

I'm not compatible with a man who finds childlike innocence and optimism attractive. He's looking for someone who doesn't have her feet grounded in reality, someone he can influence who hasn't experienced life.

So sure, some men, nay, boys and guys, will like this in a girl. But not a man looking for a mature woman.

Yeah quite interesting responses to interesting topic.

I wanted to reverse the sexes in the question - for me a childlike boyish behavior for a man (over 18) is a major turn-off. However, I know women that like it for the very same reason that RV mentioned: someone they "can influence who hasn't experienced life"

It is a power game and the "childlike" adult is often an easy pray thus attractive

There is a difference between childlike and childish. When I think of childlike wonder, hope, etc. I see that as positive. But childish....no, not so positive. Also, there is being optimistic, and then there is being naive. Naive is not necessarily a good thing.

I have been through some pretty bad things in life. There have been some pretty unfair things in my life. But overall I am typically optimistic. I try to believe the best of people while not being completely stupid and naive. I try not to worry about things I cannot control, because worrying isn't going to fix it anyway. I like to enjoy things people, life, while still being responsible. And yes, I love to see things through a child's eyes, and I can get pretty excited about new things or wonderful things. I still have the urge to pull and dandelion and blow off the fuzz.

For me, someone who is always looking for the disaster that is probably just around the corner is exhausting. It's one thing to be prepared; it's another to live like the glass is half empty...with spots...and a crack....and the water is probably really sulfuric acid. :)

I have no idea how many men find optimism appealing. But it's not going to stop me from being optimistic. I don't want to live in a world where I expect everyone to dump on me. Some people will, and it'll suck, and I'll cut them out and move on. But I'm not going to live there.

As a woman who is attracted to both men & women, I can definitely tell you that this would drive me insane.

Life is not rainbows and kittens. Life can kick you in the teeth and I'd hate to be with someone who doesn't realize that.

Incessant optimism from a man or a woman would really turn me off.

Innocence tells me that this guy or girl hasn't lived life. Innocence usually goes hand in hand with being naive and that's another thing I cannot stand.

See, I do not see the ability to remain optimistic while dealing with real life as a handicap or annoyance. I prefer it to the gloom and doom, everyone is out to get me, evolved emo brooding thing.

To each his own.

I think you are superimposing how YOU view this topic onto men, rather than listening to how they view it.

Your layed out motivation is certainly not where I'm coming at it from. I need that in my partner because I'm way too pessimistic and hate the world too much. A woman like the one describe challenges me to look at the world a different way.

Plus let's be honest, she would be a much more pleasant person to be around.

I am with a woman who is much less cynical than I am and she inspires me to want to not have such a dark view of the world. It's good when you go through things and can still see the good in the world and that is where I hope to be one day.
