Hi everybody- this is my first post, so if I mess something up then please forgive me (also please let me know if this could be in a better section of the forums :)).

So I've known this guy for a couple of months and I really like him and the signs were indicating that there's a chance he might like me back (we are both teenagers; I am 15 and he is almost 17).

Everything seemd to be going perfectly until yesterday, when his sister sent me a random picture of him holding an egg (I don't even know ) over Instagram and after we spoke for a bit, she tried to add him to the conversation but I don't think her method worked. Later on that day, I sent him a private message over Twitter humorously telling him what had happened. Two hours later I saw that he was tweeting, but hadn't replied to my message. I panicked and overrreacted for a bit, but calmed down when I saw that he had commented on one of my pictures, and thought, 'so he's not upset with me, that means that he must have just not seen the message yet or something'. This is when I think that I might have screwed up.

We exchanged a few playful messages, and he ended with just 'XD'. i used the opening to say, 'btw not sure if you knew but I was sent a picture of you holding an egg this morning (by your sister of course xD)'. Five minutes later he responded with just 'oh...lol'. Alarm bells started to go off in my head so I tried to lighten the mood by saying 'I was in the middle of my Korean lesson when I received it and I was like 'well then exciting times in Portugal I see' xD' to which he replied with 'totally lmao' and I figured that was the end of the conversation, and proceeded to panic that I had embarrassed him.

This morning he tweeted about a game that I know about, so I commented saying something funny and he liked the comment, but didn't reply, which is something this guy doesn't really do. He also tends to reply quite lengthily and enthusiastically to stuff that I send him or say to him, which is why I'm so paranoid about this.

Now he might have just been really tired last night or something, and I know that he has family round today so that might be why he liked but didn't respond (because he didn't have time) but I just feel so worried right now.

I know that I'm probably just being incredibly paranoid, but I need some advice/reassurance about what to do here.

Thank you for reading this incredibly long story :)

Is this how young people 'validate' or conduct relationships? By whose online and whose commenting on your stuff and whose sending you private messages and whose logged in but ignoring you and all that nonsense?

How utterly sad.

You realize all this childish nonsense has been done electronically and not in REAL life?

Back when I was 15, boys actually had to CALL girls or spend time with them, interacting on a PERSONAL level, not via keyboard.

You kids should try that instead of this benign nonsense.

I would if it weren't for the fact that he were in Portugal at the moment and I can't call him because I don't want to cost him money. And yes, texting and messaging is a big part of how teenagers date these days, and we have had conversations about personal things both over the internet and in real life. It is possible.
