Okay, so to make a long story short, like everyone else my girlfriend of 5 years pulled the plug about a month or so ago, i caught her rebounding about 2 weeks after that..but oddly enough are still on decent terms (on day 12 of no contact since i confronted her about mr. rebound)

The relationship breakdown was based on stress (both finishing college, work issues, home issues, family issues, future issues, etc) and a large bit of lack of communication on her part. To skip my sob story for now (yes i am still waiting things out a bit, because my heart isnt ready to give up yet.

Anyway, my friend from school, his girlfriend of 7 years did the exact same thing like 2 days after my girlfriend. Same lines and everything. He had a theory (and was actually able to say it to her face) That half of what women (atleast are 2 and it seems to be consistent) use all the cliche lines....like being "in" love.....confused.....need space, etc.....

Now if someone has never broken up with someone before, because i am assuming most people dont come with those lines pre-programmed in their head, they must come from somewhere.

He believes that television is the hugest influence on why women use those lines (especially shows like sex and the city, etc..)

I kind of lost my train of thought for some reason, but i am kind of buying into his theory that some people with little relationship experience might base how they react in certain situations to what they have as a main influence, and that is TV romance and breakups.......just wondering what people may or may not think about this idea?

If television didn't influence us, why would advertisers pay so much for just 30 seconds of it, eh?

I totally buy into this theory. And it goes way beyond break up lines. Both guys and girls get unrealistic ideas about what qualities they can get in a partner. We guys have got all these overgroomed, overbreasted, overslimmed girl fantasies. The girls have these overcool, overconfident James Bond types.

You gotta love the lyrics to American idiot "One nation, controlled by the media"....
