I've always wondered if this is a good or bad thing?

When a guy does this to a girl, is there a general thought/idea attached? Or is it just nothing more than checking her out?

Posted

Well ...

What do you mean by "examine?" Like get the microscope out? Checking for split ends or blemishes? Or like, just looking, checking her out?

***Like get the microscope out? Checking for split ends or blemishes? ****

LOL ....that made me chuckle, thanks LA, I needed that today! :bunny:

I just got off the phone with my commitment phobe brother. He does stuff like this, his latest date he asked her to smile big so he could check out her teeth!! I was like what???? He said she did!

Another chick he met at a bar. He really liked her and thought she was pretty, but she was sitting down and he wanted to see, of all things, how she walked!

So he asked her to get up and walk around the bar, and then sit back down with him. He did not tell her why. He said she laughed but did it!

Anyway, he said he did not like how she walked and got turned off, and left after she sat back down.

So yeah, I can believe a guy would check out hair and skin, face. Some men are just ....well, weird. Then again so are some women, it all evens out in the end.

You know, that thing they do when they look around your face & hair. Like checking you out.

This is hilarious. Ok, you mean just in general check you out, focusing on face/hair vs body, I guess. Well, it's a biological fact that the prettier you are or more visually appealing, people tend to hold/gaze at you longer. They have proven it with babies as well. Seriously the baby and under two test does not fail!

So yeah don't know where I've read it but it also applies to bigger babies, otherwise known as men, aka your dates. Take it as a compliment.

My friend's date on a first date that was pretty routine/so-so, he started caressing, raking his hands through her hair. She tells the story so funny. Awkward. Guys, no.

Sounds like my male BFF. He nix'd a girl because he didn't like her booties - thought this season they should have a stacked heel, not a stiletto. He also examines teeth, and thought one ex of his was "snaggletooth." She had one tooth ever so slightly crooked, but it bugged him to no end.

I have absolutely nixed women over their faces. The most recent was gorgeous. She had a lithe body and a pretty face. I was excited to see she looked like her profile pics. While we were talking and laughing she smiled and the tops of her teeth were disgusting. They were yellow and black and rotting. I was so turned off I was distracted and couldn't wait for the date end. No. Just no. I'm not going to kiss a mouth like that. Ain't going to happen. Next.

You can tell a lot about a women from looking at her hair for luster and split ends and checking her pores and overall health. And it is something a bit easier to do that lifting up her lips to check if her gums are receding and how many fillings she has - that's better left for the drive home or the walk to the front door doncha-think? Lol.

OP: are you just talking about general caressing of hair and face is this really inspection like behavior.

Ok, here's some additional info:

I met this guy recently, and he does this to me a lot. The scanning around my face and checking out my hair.

We are not in a relationship, but I suspect he has a crush on me.

Not that it matters, but I don't have a weave or anything, as it's all my own, but I'm wondering if maybe he's trying to figure out if I wear a weave? In other words, if he is wondering if it's all my real hair? Or maybe as you say, he's checking for overall upkeep?

I also always make it my business to keep myself up nicely and sometimes I would catch him looking at me from head to toe and giving me an approving look...Gotta admit, it feels a little dare I say...creepy?

I also notice that some of the guys in my workplace do this as well.

Yeah that's why I mentioned my friend's date. It was like he had a hair fetish. I think if more than just the guy you think likes you and some guys at work do it, you probably have bombshell hair. And whoever posted above that guys look at health of hair is right (though I think it happens somewhat unconsciously; it's also biological, so that they will pick the healthiest mate).

Hey there Versace!

Well, there is this one guy in particular who keeps doing this to me (I posted more details in my response to the font "Mrin".

A compliment? You sure he's not just being an azzhole? lol

That study with the babies is interesting.

No it would be a compliment or sign of interest most likely. Unless he plays for the other team and has hair envy!

Hmmmmm...very, very interesting.

Also, without getting in too deep about race (don't want to get into any trouble on the board) the guys that do this are all of a different race than me. Do you think that might play a part? Like some weird sort investigative measure or something? lol *shrugs*

well maybe. If they suspect a weave or if your hair is unusually thick and nice compared to others of your same heritage or opposite from what is typical in their race, that would be intriguing for lots of people, men and women. But I'm assuming since it is mainly guys that seem interested in your hair that it has to do with attraction.

I think guys are generally clueless about weaves and extensions but I think word might be out now. Plus even though they might know about them, they usually don't care to investigate (because that would be of gossipy interest) rather than just "it looks good and i find it sexy".

ps the bombshell hair that they typically do for victoria's secret models is another researched thing. That type of hair style is most attractive to guys and most signifies fertility (which is why unconsciously and biologically guys "examine" a woman's hair--i don't know that examine is right word but "take note of"!)

Were you wearing a low-cut shirt? I used to over-focus on a woman's face to make sure I didn't get caught looking at cleavage.

My youngest son has an obsession with hair, even as a three year old boy, he pointed out to me that the news reader on TV had had her hair done. At six years, he noticed after school one day that I'd had "pinstripes" (highlights) put in my hair.

Now he's nearly 17 and training to be a hairdresser!

His girlfriend has hair that hangs below her butt and is thick and healthy and shiny. She recently wanted to dye it, but my son talked her out of it, telling her it'd wreck her hair.

So what I'm saying is it's quite plausible that some guy's are just into hair, make-up and fashion.

You "used to", so you don't do it anymore? Sure :p.

I don't believe I've ever worn a low-cut shirt a day in my life.

Cute! Your son sounds like a hoot!

To be honest, if I'm studying someone's face it's usually not a good thing. In general I will look at people I find attractive but if I'm looking for flaws I must have a pretty good reason I expect them to be there. Not sure if that's what you're asking. But there's no reason to pick through someone's hair and face meticulously for positive reasons (in my mind).

My BF's gym partner is like this. TOTALLY breaks women down into their component parts and weighs their worth on it. A woman can not have the right butt, or the cheeks aren't high or separated enough; a "bad" walk or "wrong" hair is all it takes for him to next him.

I get so annoyed at him while he's doing it.
