Not sure what to say

Hello Loveshack!

I have a question today because I can't figure out this situation and would like your insight and thoughts. So in a few weeks I will be turning 21 and I know I will be drinking, but I'm not sure with who. This is why I can't decide, I want to drink with my girlfriend and her family because I've known them for awhile and drank with them before. I can crash at my girlfriends house and be with her.

 

The thing is my parents told me not to make plans because they want me to go on drinking with their friends who I don't even know to get my first drink. I don't like drinking around people I don't know because if Im drunk I'm not sure how they'll handle me and where I will end up. Its my moms friends who is a girl and all her girlfriends. When I'm in a relationship the only girl I drink with is my girlfriend.

 

Would you do as your parents say or tell them no because you want to ho drinking with your girlfriend? I'm stuck in a rut here and don't know what to do. Thank you!

Do what you want and where you know you will be accepted, looked after if needs be and fine.

 

Make sure you get some Resolve the day before so you have it ready.

 

I have seen people drink and drink way way way too much around people they don't know due to nerves. It can go badly wrong.

I think your mum has the best intentions but honestly, save that for another night - or mix the two, compromise?

I'm not sure if this will work, but I have class on my birthday so after class maybe go out to eat with my girlfriend and her family because food is free and get a drink or 2 then later into the night, drink with what my mother has planned?

 

I apologize I like talking it out with other people before I say anything to my family or girlfriend in case I have the wrong thing in mind or I'm not prepared. They tend to get angry fast haha. Thank you for your responses c:
