Without any prompting, my BF (who usually has no problem complimenting me) told me that I was really incredible but he didn't know how to put it in to words...and could I please be patient with him until he figures out how to say it?

We haven't said "I love you" yet, but he will tell me things he loves ABOUT me, tell me that he misses me, and do very sweet things for me. Is this his way of saying the words without saying them? I'm not the kind of person who is desperate to hear that kind of stuff - don't want to pressure him into saying something he's not ready to say. But what do I say in response to that/should I follow up with him about it?

Be patient and he'll figure out what he wants to say. :)

Just wait. Haha, I don't think you need to have a follow-up conversation about "I love you." Just be genuine in telling him what you like about him, or how you feel about him. That might create a good setting for him to feel more inclined to do so.

Also, don't worry about it. It sounds like he's trying express himself the best way he can.

No, I wouldn't bring it up again. You might at some point tell him how you feel about him. Not to say, "I love you" but something along the lines of telling him all the things you like and enjoy about him, how he makes you feel at certain times -- comforted, special, important, etc. "When you ____, I feel so special". That may give him a better idea of how to express himself in more detail to expand on the "incredible" statement to you. Show him how to be more expressive without getting gushy :)

This is something that should be spontaneous and natural, not forced or talked about. Leave it be. He's doing the best he can - and that's pretty good compared to most guys.

He thinks he may love you and is probably confused. "Love is giving someone that power to destroy you, but trusting that they won't."
