This goes for Dads too!

I stayed at my parents' this weekend. In the cabinet, there were at LEAST five different kinds of Little Debbie and Hostess cakes. There were chips, and bags full of munchy candies.

In the Fridge there was Ice Cream, Cakes, Pudding, Ice Cream Toppings, and Candy Bars!

There was any and EVERY kind of junk food you can imagine :(

When I got married, I got on Birth Control. My mom said it would make me gain weight, so I immediately started eating better. I didn't gain an inch...in fact, in the beginning, I lost weight.

But EVERY DAY, I crave chocolate SO BAD. Sometimes I'll indulge, just because I can't take it any more. I try not to have any junk food available so I won't eat it.

I wish my mom had had apples and strawberries and Watermelon, instead of all that chocolate. I'm a chocolate addict now!

I mean, a $5 watermelon is a lot better than a $3 Desert! Whenever we WOULD get fruit in the house, she'd only let us eat little bits at a time. We LOVED it. Even now, I can sit and eat an entire tub of strawberries...but I still want chocolate afterwards.

I am assuming that since I was raised on 80% junk food, 20% real food, I now want junk food all the time :(

Maybe there's no connection, but it sure seems like there is.

LOL My Mom was/is the Junk Food queen.. AND I Rarely ever eat it!

LMAO My poor kids don't get any of that crap at home... so I don't know that there is a connection or not because I don't eat the way My Mom does...

I hear you. I am exactly the same.

If I don't have it in the house, I am fine. When someone gives the kids choclate for Easter, etc. I am the one who won't stop until it is all gone. I can't even have a bit or I crave it.

You do get cravings for junk. You get addicted to the sugar and salt in the food. If you ever seen the movie Supersize me, they talk about this.

Growing up, I wasn't allowed to have any junk food. Maybe twice a year a fast food meal. No chips, no candy - only a little on Halloween then the rest would be dumped.

I turned very healthy and I don't crave junk food because I know it is bad for me. There is no temptation and I feel yucky when I eat anything artificial. I'll have one potato chip to get the flavor, or one oreo... but that's it! Any more and my body will feel like crap. But if there's any chocolate in the room, that's different :p .

I think parents should teach good eating habbits to their children, but the problem in this country is that most adults themselves don't have good eating habbits, so they have nothing to pass on.

I totally agree...I get tempted to shop at the non-organic store to cut my grocery bill to a third, but the genetically modified produce and the crappy junk food is too unappetizing, with nearlyu ZERO nutritional value.

No candy is allowed in our home, with the exception of stocking stuffers, halloween, etc. Then we hide it then toss it or give it away to the guys that my H works with.

lRB, I totally agree. Why do we have to pay so much for the good stuf?!??! Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Little debbies, crap like that? That's not even real chocolate to me. :p Much less, real FOOD. YUCK!!!

My mom's good-for-you foods, and what she fed us included:

Breakfast:

3 scrambled or fried eggs for (fried in butter)

Two pieces of white bread, toasted, buttered and with strawberry preserves

4 or 5 slices of bacon

1 small potato, sliced and fried in butter

orange juice

milk

Tea with four heaping teaspoons of sugar and cream

or---if we were in a hurry: Four pieces of toast w/ butter & preserves and a cup of tea & a bowl of Rice Krispies with 4 heaping spoons of sugar and a sliced banana.

Lunch:

PB&J

Chocolate Milk

Chips

Hershey Bar or Kisses or M&M's

Banana

Snack:

Same as lunch

Dinner:

Lots of fattening foods

Split pea & ham soup (yummy!)

sloppy joes

tons of 'taters at every meal

tons of pastas (mac & cheese, cheesburger hamburger helper was a favorite when it came out)

At night she would have all sorts of junk foods available and she always had some tins of Nestle Quick and if you take a bowl of that and add just a smidgen of hot water and mix it to a paste you get a gritty kind of excruciatingly sweet chocolate frosting--which mom would feed us (and herself) right before bed.

I don't like chocolate now and have not had anything chocolate in quite a while.
