How soon is almost immediately, OP? Also, which of the persons are you?

In my case I was the dumpee and I saw my ex holding hands with this dude 2 weeks after the break up. We had been together 4 years.

Sounds pretty normal.

I loved the comment by my best friend's wife:

'A new man's boots are parked at her front door' (She was being literal)

Our D would be final about a year later. That's how it goes! However, I would expect a young person to be greatly distressed. Time and age kind of even things out.

Would like to hear some more experiences from people

The post above needs to be pinned. There is a huge difference between the mental/emotional preparedness of the dumpers vs. the dumpees. If I break up with a guy I am ready to date again instantly. If he breaks up with me? Not a chance. I would be infinitely more wary of someone who rushes into a relationship immediately after being dumped.
lana-banana, sometimes I think you're the female version of me. It's like you've taken my thoughts and put them to words, more than once.

Not that I'd wish that on anybody.

Given how wise you are, this is one hell of a compliment. This made my night.

Back to OP: "dumpers" and "dumpees" are not fundamentally different types of people. They're just mindsets and circumstances that everyone can (and should) experience from time to time. Sometimes we're head over heels, sometimes we're less enthusiastic. I would be worried about anyone who hadn't been on both sides at least once.
