Robert Z Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Not a hypothesis or conjecture, just an observation and question based on curiosity. Also, keep in mind that I don't mean any of this in terms of absolutes but rather as a possible trend or influence. When I consider the women who most generally attract me the most, on the average and in broad strokes [no pun intended ] and the features that I find appealing, I find that I am attracted to features that are in line with my own ancestry. I seem to be most attracted to women having the same ancestry as me. This has often led me to wonder how much of physical attraction is based on environmental influences, and those driven by deeper influences; perhaps even at the genetic level. Also, I have had relationships with women from a number of races but I am speaking here in the most general terms. On a person by person basis, I am attracted to some percentage of women from all races. Do you find that you are most generally attracted to physical features found in your ancestors - color of hair, eyes, tone of skin, shape of face, body type...etc? Edited July 13, 2015 by Robert Z 1
Grumpybutfun Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 RobertZ, very interesting......I have sat here trying to think if I am attracted to people with the same ancestral background as me and I just don't think I am. I have dated/mated with women of many, many different backgrounds. Though I love my wife's look, I'm not attracted to her ancestral background anymore than anyone else's. If I had to say I had a type, I would have to say it has more to do with physical and personality traits and not ancestry. I'm a mutt so I dated them all....Maybe that is the key to not having ancestral preferences. G 1
Gloria25 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Depends... Some of us tend to lean towards what we grew up with, some of us run from it. I haven't and will never date black men cuz of my horrible dad. I didn't decide this one day, it was just never there... But, since I'm a mixed chick, I do notice that while I date Caucasian, one reason things lasted 6 years with one dude was cuz he was mixed like me. He had green/grayish eyes, curly redish hair and was light skinned like me - well more like my mum. He spoke English and Spanish. We even lived in the same state at some point in our childhoods and met in the same country overseas...so, shared tastes in music, food, etc that were also quite similar. I also like Caucasian guys, who like me, tend to have differences in eye/hair color...Like it may change with the seasons (how I get blonde and/or lighter hair in the summer months) and/or their beard might be a different color than the hair on their head...I know, I'm weird.
casey.lives Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 i don't like people who look like me. it makes me very uncomfortable. i have a physical type but not a "ancestral" type. i have a personality preference too..i've noticed
Arieswoman Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 RobertZ, Do you find that you are most generally attracted to physical features found in your ancestors - color of hair, eyes, tone of skin, shape of face, body type...etc? Absolutely. The men I am most attracted to (including both husbands) have strong features and large noses, like my dad and grandad. Here are some screen examples;- Pictures & Photos of Gabriel Byrne - IMDb Charlton Heston - IMDb Hollywood?s Greatest: Then and Now ? Christopher Lee | Classic Movie Hub Blog
S_A Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Yes, I think the ancestry thing plays a big role. I do tend to find people of my country more attractive.
loveweary11 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I'm not sure. I'm "dark Irish" (Spaniards who sunk off Ireland) and Norwegian. The most attractive girls in the world, for me, have ancestry in southern Europe and the middle east. That yoga chick is a combination of Dutch and South American that very closely approximates that look of southern European and middle eastern. My ex had ancestry in Calabria and Romania. I don't think I share close ancestry with any of these people.

There was a study done on this: Study demonstrates sexual attraction to those who resemble our parents, ourselves A second experiment used images of two faces morphed together. The control group was shown images of faces of strangers morphed together, but the other subjects were shown faces that were composites of a stranger's face and (unknowingly) up to 45% their own face. They then rated the sexual attractiveness of the morph. In this experiment the subjects shown images containing their own face found the picture more sexually attractive. I have light skin, dark hair and dark eyes. I tend to find men with those same traits more attractive then those without them. 1
Ninjainpajamas Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I think it makes a difference to many people who have grown up in a exclusive culturally/racial dominant society..but when you're legitimately attractive IMO, you're attractive universally. Some people have a very average look for their culture or have a very particular look that is appealing or popular to their own race...but not universally. I think some races have a harder time being universally attractive than others, for example black people I've heard plenty of people say (men and women) that they just have no attractive to blacks. Asian's (men much more than women) can struggle quite a bit without "caucasian" type features universally. I have been attracted to attractive women in my life, which have come from all races but for me it was never just about looks and attraction in the basic sense, I learned to develop an attraction and appreciation for different "looks"...therefore I don't know what I used to like or prefer when I was very young, but I was either always surrounded by different ethnicities and cultures and I don't think I ever had a preference based on race or similar background. I remember the first time I was around attractive Persian (we call them Persian in L.A.), I was like wow, they're beautiful...but I thought they were Hispanic, i kept mistaking attractive Persian/middle-eastern women for Hispanic's time after time. I love the eye's that these women have, and even their noses which tend to be a little enlarged, and their very dark hair...I think they're very sexy and at least the ones I've always ran across, well-dressed and taken care of, these women take very good care of themselves that I've met. As far as general and just attractive "beauty"...I'd say the Easter European women have a very good stake in that competition. Many of the women I've come across are at least pretty good looking, and many of them are stunning/beautiful. The average I've seen is much higher than I'd say it is in Los Angeles, if these women were walking around Los Angeles there would be guys harassing left and right to get in their pants. You can see the "goddess" status - near perfection looking woman just walking down the street doing something completely monotonous going throughout your day...and every guy I've talked to in my travels have said the same, it's obvious not even debatable. Unfortunately I guess what I'm saying, is some races are just better looking than others in general. Doesn't mean they can't be beautiful or attractive, especially within their own circle of society...but to me I've witnessed some races just looking hands-down better than others, and it has nothing IMO to do with my preferences or own background, just kind of objectively speaking from my point of view. I have for the record, dated women from many different backgrounds, I think they all attain some kind of unique quality, even if they do have a strong racial characteristic that is prominent and common for them. I think women can get kind of lost or confused because they sometimes want to be that guys preference or the best thing that he likes, but guys like me have probably developed a completely different eye towards women and what is attractive, I think we have a lot more qualities that we can find attractive within a woman. I think in general, the more variety you experience in life, the more it just widens/broadens your perspective, you're just not the same as a local who's been nowhere or hasn't had the chance to explore, and always dated one particular race. For myself, the "perfect woman" could be of any race.
regine_phalange Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I'm mediterranean and I have a thing for naturally darkish olive skin, strong elegant noses and nice facial hair. My hair and eye colour preference changes all the time though. Height and weight preferences seem to change as well.

carhill Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Do you find that you are most generally attracted to physical features found in your ancestors - color of hair, eyes, tone of skin, shape of face, body type...etc? I'd never really considered it until I visited the FSU and seemingly every time I turned around there was a lady who caught my eye, and the first time was in the middle of winter when everyone was bundled up for the cold. It was facial features, bone structure, eyes, etc. Everywhere. It was like I had gone home. My ancestors were from the Volga River region and emigrated to the US around the time of the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. Of course, there are attractive women everywhere, of all cultures, but those years were an experience I won't forget, as an example of the topic. It was like the attraction was hard-wired or something. I even felt more at home with the males, like we interacted instinctively and 'got' each other, even with language barriers. I did notice things were more fluid in the east and south parts of Ukraine and into Russia, versus west Ukraine and Poland and the Baltics, aligning with my ancestry being in the former region. I didn't think of it specifically at the time but rather could reflect on it later. Interesting stuff.
Els Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 My opinion is that it's largely environmental/cultural rather than genetic. As an Asian who was born in Asia but living in a Caucasian country, I've met several ladies of my ethnicity who were born here. The traits they find attractive in men tend to be much more similar with the Caucasian ladies (and ladies of other races who were also born here), compared to mine. We have similar ancestry, but our attraction is significantly shaped by where we grew up. It's possible that genetics does play a small part, but IMO the environment we grew up in affects most of us more than we realize. 1
No Limit Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Not sure to be honest. I'm definitely much more attracted to people from the country my whole family is from (slavic ehtnicity), but except for the first 3 years of my life I was barely there os it can't be from a cultural influence...? But compared to guys from this country... nah, while some have caught my interest via intellect after a while and this one guy I had a thing for on first sight I could probably find 10x as many guys I'd be interested in by just sitting in Prague and watching people walk by.
carhill Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Forgot to add that I ended up marrying a lady whose ancestors came from the same area of the world, even though, like myself, she had long cultural familial history here in the US.
