Was it an exclusive talk?

So, I am dating a divorced man with two kids. He got divorced last winter. We have been dating over 8 weeks now. A very slow progression. We started one date a week for a month with no physical contact and recently transitioned to twice a week.

He recently told me I was the first person he ever got intimate physically and said he would get himself tested to be on a safer side.

Was this an exclusive talk? I am a bit confused.

I think it was a safe sex talk.

It sounds like he is worried you might've given him an STD.

No, unless he tells/asks you to be exclusive, it's not an exclusive talk. He just wants to be safe about sex.

However, if you do become intimate and the talk hasn't happened, you would not be off base to initiate it. There isn't anything wrong with making sure the two of you are on the same page. If you are the first person he's been intimate with, I'd say he's maybe a little clueless about dating and exclusivity anyway. He may not realize he need to do that . . .
