Clarence_Boddicker Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 What are some people's epic break up stories? I don't mean ones with abuse, cruelty or illegal activities on your part. I drove across the country to get away from a toxic relationship that was ending. I knew things were over, but I didn't have the strength to break up like I should have. I had an opportunity that I couldn't pass up, which took me as far away as realistically as possible from her. She was not happy with me for leaving temporarily (1 month), but was pursuing another guy. My only regret was not leaving sooner, or being totally honest about why I wanted to leave. Movie scenes would be cool also.
candie13 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Guilty of the above as well: first serious RS (early 20): I actually applied for a scholarship at an university in Paris - and got it. It still took me another year to officially end it. Second serious RS - funnily enough I was (again) living in another country than when we started dating. It still was hard as hell to leave. To my defense, I don't think I could have left earlier than I did, I was really involved with that guy (7 years of dating). This one cured me from any waiting, wasted 4 years too many with him. Last year was especially difficult. Third and fourth RS: I was just... done. Woke up and left. Immediately. Left the third RS way too late - 3-4 months too late. Fourth RS: left it a bit too early. I know I did the right thing, though, however that was brutal - had a huge raw and never saw him again. Mailed him a box with all his stuff - didn't even want to see his friends, deleted everything we had, canceled all travel plans, just vanished out of his life.
jen1447 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I don't know that I have any epic ones. Most are pretty good-natured. I have been involved in other ppl's epic breakups before tho, haha.
mightycpa Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 My epic one is only epic to me... it's probably not even epic to her. In truth, the story is pretty lame compared to a lot of what I've read in these threads. Thank God for that!
Speirling Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Not sure it qualifies but my "epic" break up was my ex telling me he didn't love me anymore in the middle of the night before I had to fly to anther country @6am to go to my aunts funeral, and 2 days before his brothers wedding which I was half in. I was blindsided. (It was (and continued to get) more complicated - but his timing was just so spectacularly bad to have that kind of revelation)
GammaLeonis Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Both went Super Saiyan and destroyed a small town. Sorry, couldn't resist. Lol
DexterLS Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 My most epic breakup is the only breakup I have had so far. - High school sweethearts. 6 years together. - She left to get a job in another country (after 5 years 6 months together). Emotionally cheated after 2 months. Physically after 3. Didn't tell me a thing. - Saved for a year to go and see her there. Found out she has been sleeping with someone else all along when I got there. Decided to forgive her anyway. Had a ring ready as well before I left for the trip. - I proposed. She agreed. She took the ring. - Dumped me right when I got back to my country. Strung me along for months. - Now going on a trip with the other guy for her birthday in a week. Oh, didn't give me back the ring as well..

hotmrw Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 My Ex of 2 years dumped me for another guy, moved him in, banned me from the house, got engaged to him, agreed to marry him ALL IN THE SPACE OF 3-4 MONTHS continued to treat me like sh*t & speak to me like sh*t, we have a 13 month old child together ( my life ) she took her away from me, rubs everything in my face And I did nothing to her whatsoever, and am nothing but nice to her.....
Speirling Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Well, damn I feel like a fool! I had a similar situation with a previous ex (in terms of another love on his part, turned out to be overlapping, quick marriage etc) but it didn't hit me so hard since I only got all the details a couple of monthslater. I can't imagine how unresolved it must all feel if you're experiencing it in real time. Hotmrw, Dexter: keep going. This is about them, and not you. Have you started NC? (Hotmrw- in the UK there are free intermediary services, I don't know about elsewhere, but perhaps you could nominate family members?) S
erklat Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I had an epic downfall with my ex. A lot of heavy words and impulsive actions. Later she said to my brother she would reconcile if we weren't insulting each other but now I know it was guilt relieving bull****. If I was a reputable experienced member here then I would've handled it better.

Burned any and all bridges that were left with her best friends and family. It's a shame but the only thing we can take from it is experience and knowledge going forward.
