disneyfan90 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I applied for an internship position a few weeks ago. They asked me a few questions and said they'd be in touch shortly if my qualifications match what the manager is looking for. I received an email from the manager a couple of weeks after that, asking when I'd be ready to start. I basically told him I'm ready to start right away. It's been two weeks however, and I haven't gotten a response from them after that. Should I just assume they are not interested or should I try emailing them again? I don't feel like giving up just yet because it seems like a pretty cool startup.

"hello XXX, this is XXX, we spoke on XXX about the internship and i was just wondering if the position had been filled already." or something like that :-) i would reply directly to the last email they sent you instead of creating a new one, so you're also referencing that without mentioning it.

DO follow up by email and tell them you hope that they are still interested in hiring you and you're looking forward to working at that company.
angel.eyes Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I would follow up again. Personally, I would call first if you have a number. If you don't get the person live, send an email, instead of leaving a voicemail. Keep it brief but positive. Reiterate that you remain interested in the internship position, mention a couple of skills/experiences that make you ideal for the position, and restate when you're available to start, and that you hope to hear back from them soon. You can't assume they aren't interested. If they weren't, they wouldn't have asked for your availability to start. Besides, there is no downside to following up politely about a potential opening. 1
kenmore Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This calls for more proactive-ness. If it's nearby, go there. Otherwise, call as angel.eyes says. Use what we call in the sales industry the "assumptive close." In other words, assume you have the job and go in asking when you are supposed to start as you hadn't heard. Make it sound like as done of a deal as possible to as many people as possible including the person who emailed you. If you must email do the same. The assumption that you have the job (which is what was implied) goes a long way toward putting pressure on them which you need to do. If they are still undecided, it may put you in the top position. If not, what did you lose? Good luck!! It has worked for me, so I know it's great psychological advice! Ken 1
