carhill Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Yeah, with my male friends of that era who were divorced and had custody, shared or otherwise, they blended kids activities with 'dad' stuff with male friends usually surrounding shared hobbies, and dating as opportunities arose. As example, sometimes a friend would bring his son and hang out in the pits while I was at the track racing and we'd be up in the stands otherwise. Typical dad stuff. Then there was Boy Scouts, Little League and other boy hobbies or pursuits. I tended to have more group interaction with male friends who had sons. 1

And what if they have girls?
DivorcedDad123 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 And what if they have girls? Ballet, dance, softball, cheerleading, somewhere shopping is available,...yes, I have a girl too,but she's married now. If the kids are in their teenage years, they aren't spending lots of time with mom or dad, so you'd most likely find them doing things other guys their age are doing. 1
impatiently_patient Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I only have one single dad friend, he's coming up on 40. He's into comics, and gaming and that kind of stuff. If you're not a hater on those kind of things, you could try game shops, or conventions like E3, ComicCon, etc. He also takes his son to kid-friendly events at museams and the like, or just to the park to play. He's also on Match.com (where you can filter for single dads) where he's ignored by women utterly. 1
xxoo Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 At the beach or lake with the kids. Places with go karts and laser tag. Bass Pro Shop, and the like. Dave and Busters, and the like. 1
Author Popsicle Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 So is it only kid-friendly places they go to in public? Where do they go when they don't have their kids?
ChicagoSparty Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 With the kids: park, beach, coffee shops, whatever activities they're doing, camping Without the kids: Tinder 2
carhill Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 They could have older kids too. Mine are older. And what if they have girls? One of my male friends met his wife of now, sheesh, nearly 20 years at a softball game his daughter was playing in. She was single and childless but was there with her sister who also had a child playing. Far cry from him sitting out in the pasture with his horse, a bottle of Jack Daniels and his .45 a couple of years earlier when his first wife cleaned him out. He fought for joint custody (rare back then) and got it so did a lot of activities with both his daughter and son. 1
impatiently_patient Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) So is it only kid-friendly places they go to in public? Where do they go when they don't have their kids? Generally places they can't go when they have the kid like nice restaurants. I'll drag my buddy to live music spots, hip bars... stuff like that. Telling the single dads from the childfree will be tough in places like that. Honestly, online dating should theoretically be a THE best place for finding single men. That's awesome you're a good friend.
impatiently_patient Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 That's awesome you're a good friend. I do my best. I feel bad for his situation. His ex is a jobless deadbeat while he works hard, pays the bills, and he has custody of the kid 90% of the time. I always name drop him when (decent) single moms hit on me too. Try to do him (and the woman) a favor. They never take me up on it though. 1
alphamale Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Where do they go when they don't have their kids? to AA meetings 1
xxoo Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Maybe I missed it....did anyone mention the gym? (I just went to the store and saw a pretty hot older guy walking from the gym to his car....) 1
0range33 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The social aspect of a golf club is generally pretty good. Most of the guys go out at the weekends as well 1
