I won't go into specifics but I broke up with my ex a few months ago because he wanted to study abroad again and I decided to do what was best for me and broke it off. He still stays in constant contact with me and always texts me first; typically just asking how I am and tells me about his trips and whatever. Everytime I talk to him, though, I just feel like it reopens the wounds and makes it seem like everything is still good between us, when I still feel like he left me to go abroad and all this other stuff along with that. I know he still loves me and wants to get back together but I just don't know if I can see that happening.

He texted me yesterday asking how I was doing and I haven't responded since. Is it cold if I ignore him or should I just be friendly and answer him back?

Option 3: Tell him this

Everytime I talk to him, though, I just feel like it reopens the wounds and makes it seem like everything is still good between us, when I still feel like he left me to go abroad and all this other stuff along with that. I know he still loves me and wants to get back together but I just don't know if I can see that happening.
Then tell him that because of that, you don't want to hear from him any more, and if you ever do want to talk to him again, that you'll contact him at that time.

That's it.

Just tell him you need time to heal. Maybe revisit being friends a few months down the line.

In the two options you suggest, you aren't really being true and honest. Why not mightycpa's option 3?
