So, my 6 month Match membership ended.

It was pretty dismal and I had very little success in getting many women to respond to me. But anyway, I was going to renew just because I wanted to go one last round and email a whole bunch of the women I thought were really cute, just to say I did it, but didn't get a chance to, and the monthly fee isn't too bad I guess, even just to sit there and browse.

Anyway, I'm in no rush and when I let it lapse, I got an email message from a female profile, my first unsolicited message. I waited a bunch of days, and then re-upped like I planned to. It ended up being a generic email with a generically attractive female profile, and almost a robot like message and when I replied, I got a robot type reply back.

So, do you think Match.com uses fake profiles to get lonely guys who have cancelled their subscriptions to reup? :lmao: Like go around and see which guys get no messages, and then spam them an email after they cancel? Cause that's what it seems like. And if so, woudn't that be illegal? They could potentially make thousands upon thousands of dollars by drawing back disenfranchised men like that.

This is my suspicion as well. I have received far more initial messages as a non-paid member than as a paid member.

I wouldn't put it past them and I'm sure your observations are accurate.

ALL dating websites do it. OKCupid, POF, etc.

If you get a msg from someone who you can see has not viewed your profile, that's how you know they're fake, hired by the site to lure you in.

What a scam...

Waste of money.

Don't renew, don't pay.

It's all an illusion.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I think there were even articles done about this. These "Pay for date" sites are crap and it's an endless circle. You see someone you like, you message, you don't get a response. Why? Those are probably not "pay members" and thus can't read or open your message.

There was a great article about why you should never pay for online dating.

Why You Should Never Pay For Online Dating « OkTrends

Makes a lot of sense. I did it for one month and couldn't handle it. When I was OLD I stuck to POF/OKCupid.

I think so. In my experience, there is no one on Match. What I have found have been catfish posting fake profiles, so do google searches and google image searches on profiles because chances are, they're fakes.

Absolutely. When I let mine expire, within two days around one hundred brand new guys had liked me, messaged me, or winked at me. It was so much higher than the average amount of communication I had received on there so I knew Match had to be doing something to up the numbers and reel me back in. Luckily I didn't join again.

I decided that they either have lots of fake profiles so that once you cancel these profiles can contact you, or once you cancel the subscription, your profile shows up at the top of more searches so that you get more contact from actual members. Either way, I didn't like it and won't join again.

One hundred new guys to lure you back and one gal to lure me back.

Those Match.com people know their customer base and know how to optimize their resources. :lmao:

Fake profiles are par for the course with online dating unfortunately.

Bogus profiles rampant on Match.com: lawsuit - NY Daily News

Yes, the catfish I encountered used pictures of a design curator in Moscow to fabricate a false identity. The crazy thing is that once I found the guy in Moscow and told him about his identity being stolen, we've become friends on Facebook. Crazy how the world works sometimes.

But everytime I check my messages, both filtered and unfiltered, on OKC by running them through a google search 98% of the time, they're fake and I report them, plus I report to the sites where the words and pictures have been used. And it's true--all they need do is to use IP address monitoring software and facial recognition software, but they choose not to do it. They should be fined out of existence.

Say what you want, I've dated a lot of hot women on Match, the site works well. Compared to any other dating pool, I think you really have the opportunity to date-up on Match.

Ya gotta wonder though....if those hot women you date aren't hired by the site too.

Like that last one you really liked who had sex with you on first date....and then suddenly switched...for no apparent reason.

I dunno I wouldn't put it past them...

Oh! I've totally assumed they did this for the longest time. I don't even doubt it.

I've had 3 separate Match subscriptions...each for the 3 month time period.

During each one, I'd send off hundred of emails. I would get a few responses, and some dates. I even got 1 short relationship from it. Mostly, though, tons of emails never responded and the girl never even looked at my profile. (Which would tell me that they probably weren't paid members). And almost never, have I gotten an initial message from a girl.

And sure enough, each time my subscription ended, a few weeks would go by and suddenly, just like that, I'd get a notification in my reg email saying "Someone special has sent you a Match.com message. Click here to read it." That link then takes you to a blanked out screen, hiding the message and the profile of the girl who 'sent' it. A pop up would overlay it saying, purchase now to read your message.

The first two times, I would wait a few days, and then my interest would peak. I would think to myself, what if it's one of the girls who I messaged finally responding. So I'd buy another month and see just who sent me that message. Both times it was some random woman, from like 500 miles away, who had barely a profile or any good pics, saying something like... "Hi...read your profile. If you like mine, say hi."

So...yeah, I wouldn't put it past them that they themselves create a few profiles and send off fakes messages. To stir the pot.

I hate Match.

Essentially, a subscribed member, is a sales tool. You pay them, a monthly fee, to be their sales tool. haha Think about it. You send off messages, and either the person is a paid member and can read it. Or, more likely (since I'd estimate that at least 60% of profiles are NOT paid members) your message is not read. Ever. It is then used as a sales pitch which Match sends to that user to get them to buy in.

Match's business plan works entirely on their members never finding love. It hinges on lots of members sending off messages to all those unpaid subscribers.

Well that basically makes them site sponsored prostitutes lol.

Nah, pretty sure they're legit ;) Even though I haven't come out of things with a relationship to show, I won't complain too much, I've gotten my share of hot sex.

@ the guys bashing match blaming it for why they didn't meet someone, you need to stop externalizing your problems. Most likely it's you.

Quote in asterisk -- bingo!

But hey...as long as you're enjoying... and they're getting your money -- it's a win-win! :bunny:

Nobody said that.

We were just saying that Match.com uses fake profiles to lure you back in, a conversation that females were fully involved in.

And BTW...not sure about other sites, but Match.com is always getting sued for shyt like this..

The last law firm I worked for had a few doozies fall on their desks.

They usually settle before making it to trial though.

They don't care...they make so much freaking money....it's just par for the course for them...

I'm not sure about fake but inactive absolutely. After my e-harmony subscription expired I got a lot of e-mails telling me I had been matched with a new guy. I figured that guy had also been sent my e-harmony contact info & then got hurt / upset when he reached out to me but I didn't respond. You as the user don't know who is active & who isn't.

I saw an e-harmony commerical the other day where they were bragging that over 650,000 users got married. As a married woman who was once on the site for 90 days 10 years ago but who did not meet my husband through the site, I wondered if I was one of the 650,000. The comerical only said 650,000 users got married; anybody listening to the commercial could infer that it was through the site but they didn't actually day that.

One guy who sued match..and won....had an entire relationship with a chick hired by the site.

Anything to get your money....and they're getting plenty of it too... that's for damn sure.

Lol...just stating the FACTS barcode. The fact is Match *has* been sued many many times for fraud. You can deny that happens until hell freezes over...that won't change the facts.

Obviously, since many people have also developed real relationships...that have led to marriage, the site does work for many.

But one should NOT rule out the *possibility* that the hot sexy girl or guy they are chatting with, or just met, had hot sex with, etc is a fake hired by the site.

It happens! Match.com settles these lawsuits because they have no defense.. because they know it's true.

There have been articles written by women who were hired by the site for precisely this reason..

I am sorry to burst your bubble barcode, but don't be naive. It DOES happen.

There are some Nigerian boilerroom scammers on the dating sites. They usually get nuked in a few hours though. POF is quicker to nuke them though, most are gone within minutes.

Match is the best dating site right now.

How do you KNOW? These girls...and guys.....are good! And they're paid big bucks for being good too.

Not saying that last chick was a fraud. I have no idea...but it's a possibility. I mean, the perfect face, hot body. all the PDA, the hot sex (the best you ever had?), and then the next date she turns her cheek?

Then when you end it...she says "hope you find what you're looking for"?

Some chicks really are too good to be true.

Just sayin....it's possible because again it does happen, more often than you think.

LOL, match does not hire actors.... they are Nigerian boileroom scammers. If you don't want to deal with the scammers try POF, POF deletes their accounts 10 times quicker.
