Now this is my own personal self imposed list of restrictions but I think the list is reasonable and wise. These following women are off limits from dating or sex.

 

1. Married women.

2. Women who have boyfriends.

3. Women in the workplace.

4. Women I do volunteer work with.

5. Women I meet at church.

 

Feel free to add to this list. Which women are off limits for you?

 

#1 and #2 - Duh.

 

#3 - Understandable, especially if your company has strict policies against dating, or if your position is career-minded and you have aspirations to move up the ladder. Keep in mind though that many, many happy couples met in the workplace. Of course, many other attempts to hook up in the workplace have ended in disaster and ruined careers. It's just high risk; too high for a lot of people.

 

#4 and #5 - I strongly disagree with. One of the big reasons people even go to church is to connect with like-minded people, both for friendship and for dating opportunities. It's not that much different than attending any other common-interest social gathering.

 

Honestly though...I think you should change your entire mindset. Gloria25's list was funny, but her underlying point is a good one. Just get out there with an open mind and interact with all sorts of people like a normal person. If one happens to be in a relationship, then just take it in stride and move on. Also, networking is important...it's one of the biggest ways to meet people. For example, Jill may be married herself, but she may have a friend named Christy who's single...and if Jill thinks you're a good guy then she may include you in her social circle, giving you an opportunity to meet her friends, including Christy.

 

Don't think in terms of limits or restrictive lists, even though it's common sense that your first two points are off limits. Over-focusing on self-imposed limits tends to reduce your level of happiness and confidence...which may make you less attractive in the eyes of some women that aren't on your list.

And I have to admit to turning down a very attractive 40 year old woman who wanted to use whips on me. But not on the first date, she clarified. :laugh:

I think #3 is so that it's not awkward if you break up. Is that it?

 

If I were a guy I'd add be very cautious with :

 

Women who have previously cheated while engaged or married (though I'd ask questions about it)

 

Women who have been the other woman (again I'd dig deeper )

 

 

It isn't just about it being awkward to work with them after the breakup but also a bad breakup could get you fired. Even without any policy restrictions against dating what if your now ex decides to plot ways to get you fired because they can no longer stand the sight of you at work? That does happen. They can make up a sexual harassment story.

 

As far as why I don't date women I do volunteer work with it is the same reason I don't date women at work. A relationship only has 2 possible outcomes and that's marriage or a breakup. There is no other option. More relationships are headed for a breakup than for marriage. Odds are if I get into a relationship tomorrow the long term outcome will be breaking up. The fact that I think about the future and don't just focus on what's happening today is a good sign I have not fallen too deep for any woman. When guys fall too deep for a woman they are blinded and only think about how things are going well today.

 

I go to work to work. I do volunteer work to help out the community not to look for a love affair. That's why I decline invitations from women who offer me coffee or a sandwich. Sharing food and drinks may appear innocent but that's how many love affairs start out as something innocent.

I do put up an emotionally cold front in the work environment around this one woman that I have a crush on. Being cold is a way to protect myself so others get discouraged from getting close to me. I don't even participate in work parties or potlucks.
