SolG Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Tinder guy: Hey beautiful. How you doin'? Me: Hey Joey! Tinder guy: Actually, it's Tinder Guy here. But you can call me whatever you want Me: Oh Tinder Guy. It was a Friends reference. You know... Joey says, 'How you doin'?' Tinder guy: Fine thanks. How are you? Me: Never mind... :/ I know it's my bad. I had read somewhere that pop culture references are usually an OLD no-go. But this guy was of an age that I thought he'd get it! Obviously not. Oh well, it amused the crap out me anyway Have you guys had pop culture references go awry?
DoesntGetIt Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I've watched friends many times, but just saying Joey wouldn't always be enough through text (since there isn't the inflections on How you doin?), next time toss in Tribbiani to help. I've had Seinfeld references fall flat on a date before. So yeah, they aren't the best until you know the other person has seen/knows what you're talking about.

It's best to not explain it if they don't get it and just keep rolling lol.
gaius Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I generally try to use them in a way where they make sense even if they don't get them, so they're none the wiser. 2
Emilia Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I think your mistake was creating a Tinder profile in the first place 2
