How many 'matches' do you get on speed dates?

I went to a speed dating event 2 weeks ago (I also wrote a thread about it asking about a dumb ice breaker) and got 8 matches out of 24, kinda sad because I was convinced that I'd get every one (including the ones I didn't find attractive). During the break I spoke to a few other guys and 1 said that he's been 3 times but hadn't got a single match yet, and this other guy said that he got 20 matches — I'm sure he inflated his number. At the moment I'm very casually dating 3 of the matches, I've made out with all of them but haven't been able to close yet. Today I got an email from the event company and they gave me a free ticket to go again, so I'm thinking about going again this weekend.

 

Any guys here go on a speed date and if so how many matches did you get?

I find it interesting how they struggle to find men for speed dating. I was on a company's email list but I never ended up going to an event. Still I noticed all the time they would offer free and 2 for 1 tickets for guys. Sounds like women sign up and men are always in demand.

 

They also held other types of dating events, like a lock and key party at a bar. I think with this particular agency it would have gone well for me if I had bothered to show up.

Never tried speed dating, how does that work exactly?

It's only 5 minutes each and not enough time to actually talk about anything. You have to make a good impression (i.e. be physically attractive), I think that's what puts most guys off. Also at the end I noticed that the guys that weren't very attractive vanished and it was only me and a few others that mingled with the bulk of the women.

 

But the 8 matches was a buzzkill and I don't know anyone in my social circle that's gone speed dating which is why I'm asking.
