At what point does being fired from a job no longer matter?

Yeah, as I've said before I have been fired from places before and just didn't use them as references. If you're at this job for 5 years, I doubt they will even ask about the previous position.

 

Yeah I don't think most companies care about the job before your current oror previous job. lol

They usually only care if you haven't stuck around long term or don't have a lot of experience....so they'll go a few employers back if it was recent experience. But after 5 years, I doubt they'd contact the previous employer unless you want them to reference you or if they are just doing employment verification.
