I've only been to Miami/South Beach. I thought it was nice. It was trendy, good fashion, blue water, clubs. It was a bit rowdy when I went out on a Friday night. But I noticed the people that I talked to that vacation in Florida-they usually go to Fort Meyers, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Key West. Seems like none of them have even been to Miami! Is Miami that bad? I actually liked it. I heard Ft. Meyers and Lauderdale is a place for families and older people.

SoBe is one of the hottest party destinations in the world, especially if you are into electronic music.

I think those other people are looking for a quiet, Jimmy Buffet type experience where they don't have to try or spend nearly as much $$$ so they prefer those quieter spots.

I can literally see no reason at all to vacation in Ft Lauderdale though. It has all the negatives of Miami without all the positives. Truly a boring suburbia trying to be Miami and failing. More of a place to live once you are done partying.
